Malachi Throne has died

Read about his passing on Huffington Post in the last half hour and stunned by it. I took a look at his filmography on imdb and was floored by his astonishing career. Even forgot that he played Senator Pardek in TNG's Unification (DUH!) RIP Mr. Thorne.

Wasn't he in the early running to play Picard?

I've never heard that, but I do know that Bill Campbell (Trelane, Koloth) tried out for Picard and was turned down.

Aside from his work in The Cage and The Menagerie, Malachi Throne played Pardek, Spock's Romulan friend in Unification.

Just realized--he was the last actor to portray a'superior' officer from TOS. All the admirals, commodores and fleet captains have passed.

Garth
Decker
Stone
Stocker
Pike
Fitzgerald
Wesley
Barstow
Westervleit
Enwright (voiced by Doohan)

and now Mendez

R.I.P. all

He also had Star Wars connections too, as he was the announcer in the very first Star Wars trailer, the one that proclaimed, "Somewhere in space, this may all be happening right now".

Actually, I think that was Orson Wells.

I dunno, Wookieepedia has him credited for that Star Wars trailer. It was Orson Wells who did the Star Trek: The Motion Picture trailer.

It's not Welles in the original SW trailer. I'd know his voice anywhere. It doesn't sound like Throne, either, but I'm less certain about that.

Hmm. I think you're right. I just watched that trailer on my DVD again, and it DOES, in fact, sound more like Throne than Welles.

That said, I remember reading somewhere that it was Welles, but I can't find that source anymore.

He will be missed. A giant of character actors, and for TOS fans, he delivered a well remembered performance.

With Cliff Robertson and Malachi Throne now both gone, or Shame and Falseface respectively, are there ANY male villains from the BATMAN TV series still with us?

Cliff Robertson died? I hadn't heard that.

John Astin who, IIRC, played the Riddler in at least one appearance is still around. Don't recall if he was before or after Frank Gorshin's portrayal.

It was actually in the MIDDLE - Gorshin couldn't make a filming, so Astin subbed. :vulcan:

Throne was one of just five actors to appear in all four of the Irwin Allen series (VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, LOST IN SPACE, THE TIME TUNNEL and LAND OF THE GIANTS). The others are Michael Ansara, Kevin Hagen, John Crawford and Torin Thatcher.

Eli Wallach, one of the three actors to play Mr. Freeze, is still kicking at the age of 97.

I think it's just the two of them.

A number of "special guest villainesses" have left us as well: One Catwoman, Ma Parker, Black Widow (died soon after the show), Marsha Queen of Diamonds, Lola Lasange, Dr. Cassandra, Zelda the Great/Olga the Queen of Cossacks. (Falseface's right-hand woman Blaze passed several years ago too)

The other two Catwomen, the Siren, Nora Clavicle, Lady Peasoup, and Minerva are still with us.

(I always thought the then-new villainess Poison Ivy would be a great role on the show for some redhead like Ann-Margaret).
