June Lockhart, who became a mother figure for a generation of television viewers whether at home in “Lassie” or up in the stratosphere in “Lost In Space,” has died. She was 100.

Lockhart died Thursday of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, family spokesman Lyle Gregory, a friend of 40 years, said Saturday.

Hmm. I've known of her all my life, but knew little about her. Just about the only thing I saw of her that I can actually remember is her guest appearance on B5 (the episode that introduced the "lifegiver").

I met her when she was perhaps 75. Her TROLL costar Gary Sandy was close by that day.

She had smallish roles in SGT. YORK and MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. Her father Gene appeared in one of those films...probably YORK. Her daughter Anne had a significant role in the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA....which also used Jonathan Harris's voice.

I heard her on evening radio in the '90s with Tom Snyder and Angela Cartwright, in which she humorously described her personality as ''down and dirty.''

Snyder heard their 3rd season theme tune and added ''Now THAT is truly funky music! No wonder they were lost!''

Lockhart's oldest major American female contemporaries still with us are 101-year-old Eve Marie Saint, and Lee Grant, who will be 100 in four days.:bolian:

RIP, Miss L.

That was the first thing I ever saw her on actually! Then on a number of other things over the years, just recently as a guest character on Babylon 5.
