Make up a fake bit of Trek trivia!

FACT: Picard is actually Wesley's father--the result of a few too many drinks when Picard first met Beverly.

My wife and I both whole-heartedly believe that Picard is Wesley's father. Read between some of the lines between Picard and Beverly in the earliest episodes of Season 1.

Fact: Captain Sisko was originally going to appear in Star Trek: First Contact but the writers quickly realised that having him fighting the borg in the film would make the film only be 2 minutes long. Including the credits

FACT: Harry Kim was originally scheduled to be promoted to Lieutenant in the 5th season, but when the subject was brought up in a 4th season staff meeting, the producers said, "who?!"

Oddly, the same comment was made years later when someone suggested Mayweather be given more to do in Enterprise.

Nichelle Nichols was considering dropping out of Trek after the first season, but a chance encounter with... who told her... made her change her mind.

but a chance encounter with Abraham Lincoln who told her what a charming negress she was, made her change her mind.

:)

Fact: Nicholas Meyer originally wanted to have TWOK as an 18th Century costume drama, based on Hornblower, using the characters of Star Trek.

Fact: Although its common knowledge that Captain Archer's first name was in consideration to be Jeffrey, its not widely known that he was going to be a decendant of his namesake. A story pitched for the would be ENT season 5, included Archer's political career as UFP President, coming to an end, after claims of perjury.

Actress Laurel Goodwin, who played Yeoman Colt in "The Cage," was offered the continuing role of Yeoman Janice Rand when the series was bought by NBC. She turned down the part when her friend and former Girls! Girls! Girls! co-star Elvis Presley advised her, "Naw, baby, that ain't cool!"

Wil Wheaton was originally slated to act in drag as Weselina Crusher, but the producers decided against it when they found out that being brushed off by William Shatner would be embarassement enough.

FACT: The flight article TOS shuttle was actually built by Northrop but was too deemed unstable for use in the show..

However with modifications it was turned into the Tacit Blue Stealth aircraft prototype..

FACT:

Brent Spinner was so mean that he once shot a man in Reno, just so he could watch him die.

FACT: Late in the fifth season of Deep Space Nine, Avery Brooks broke down on the walk of the stars, screaming "I'm a Reaaallll tv star".

T'Girl for the win!

FACT: Despite working very hard to change his image and avoid type-casting, Avery Brooks was constantly "encouraged" to shave his head and grow his goatee beard until he finally relented for the fourth season of DS9.

FACT: Dan Aykroyd was to appear in the TNG episode "Family" as a pointy-headed alien living next door to the Picard family home. The scenes were allegedly never filmed due to "scheduling conflicts", although some sources claim that Patrick Stewart objected to the make-up design of the alien and there was insufficient time to design a suitable alternative.

FACT: John Tesh auditioned for the role of Lt. Worf. As a die-hard Trekkie, he was very enthusiastic and had many suggestions for the character, including the idea that Worf should regularly sing traditional Klingon songs. Ultimately, Michael Dorn was cast instead, but the producers were so taken by Tesh's suggestions for the character that he was called in to write all the songs that Worf sings throughout the series. Tesh later appeared as a Klingon in the episode "The Icarus Factor". Dorn and Tesh sang a duet together in a touching scene with Diana Muldaur, but this was later cut.

The Star Trek Game unveiled at E3 this year was originally titled "Star Trek: The Reboot: The Movie: The Game".

William Shatner started out as a classically trained opera singer, before turning to acting to "pay the bills."

FACT: Deep Space Nine was originally to have an all-female cast but the executives at Paramount thought it too controversial for the time and recast key roles. Whitney "Bernadette Sisko" Houston never fully recovered.

FACT: Jackson Archer, Jonathan's evil gay twin brother, was to switch places with the captain for three episodes in season 5 in an attempt by the writers to introduce a gay character to Trek and to address some fans' criticism of Scott Bakula's milquetoast straight while male casting in the central role.

Fact: An early episode planned for Enterprise would match Archer's ship against a charming rogue named "Cap'n Reynolds".

Nichelle Nichols was considering dropping out of Trek after the first season, but a chance encounter with her landlord, who reminded her of her overdue rent, made her change her mind.
