Magnificent Ferengi

This episode is one of my favorite comedic episodes. I loved seeing Quark and his interactions with his brother and nephew and the interactions of the team. Then, of course, there was the moment Quark and Rom hit Sisko's office. That was genius! And of course, the moment when the episode sort of became Weekend at Bernie's.

Pretty much sums up the reasons why I love the episode.

On Farpoint... I think Picard was making stuff up to throw that easily upset guy....

I'm disappointed not to see outraged comments on Magnificent Ferengi, about its taking death so lightly, that kind of thing... because that kind of outrage would make me feel all the more badass for liking the episode! Instead, everyone here gets it...

Taking death too lightly - you mean the Vorta who ordered his own Jem Hadar into a suicide attack and told Federation Intelligence everything he knew? Who was a dead man walking, and the only question was whether he would debrief Dominion Intelligence before they killed him? That Vorta?

Not going to ask too many questions about what happens in the episode itself, since obviously, it never meant to take itself seriously.

But still...

1) Why would the Dominion take Ishka (Moogie) as a hostage in the first place? The Ferengi aren't part in the conflict, and Ishka certainly isn't any combatant. What did the Dominion hope to gain by this (before Quark turned up with his offer of exchanging the Vorta for Moogie)?

2) Empok Nor. In the eponymous episode half a year before this one, we learn it's one incredibly dangerous place -- redundantly boobytrapped for all non-cardassians. And if those weren't enough, Cardassian elite soldiers are rigged to wake up to defend the station in case of any intruders, and the two we saw didn't look like they were the last . Yet in this ep, Empok Nor seems little more than an abandoned husk, where Ferengi (and Jem'Hadar!) can run through with abandon, facing no danger (from the station itself, or those Cardassians). So, what happened in the time between those episodes? I mean, surely, after escaping barely with their lives, they informed Starfleet, but still I find it hard to believe, that in the middle of a ravaging war, Starfleet would commit the resources to "delouse" the place, instead of just posting a message "Stay away for the time being". Neither can I imagine they sent a polite message to the Cardassians: "dear enemy, please be so kind as to remove the obstacles you left behind at Empok Nor" -and besides, the Cardies would be tied up in the war effort in the same way. So what happened here?

Not sure why you start another Magnificent Ferengi Thread. There is still one existing below.

^ Right. Completely overlooked that one. To make matters worse, it seems I replied in it about a month ago - and then completely forgot about it.

Mods: please feel free to merge this one.

1. The Dominion wouldn't have taken Moogie prisoner. This is a silly idea.
2. DS9 party in "Empok Nor" got all the booby traps and sleeping Cardassian commandos and left the place empty.

"Empok Nor" came up for a rewatch tonight. Yes, there were three stasis tubes, one had a long-dead Cardassian and the other two woke and were killed by Garak. There are potentially more booby traps left on the station, but they probably cleaned up most of them.

In my head canon Sisko notified Dukat about what happened, so that the Cardassians could bury the dead Cardassian commandos appropriately. They might have gotten any remaining booby traps, or set more of them I suppose.
