Macross Frontier (tv). Coming in 2008!

What'd you guys think of #5?

Even though there was no action it left room for much needed character development. I loved the ending which was a great lead into the Vajra offensive. Sheryl is quite fun to be around with when she isn't busy being a diva, and it looks like Frontier will soon have two galaxy idols.

The Zentradi farmers and their hippocows was simply awesome! I loved the mall scenes as well as Alto and Sheryl's date around San Francisco since I'm from the Bay Area.

I think Sheryl/Alto make a much better pair then Alto/Ranka.

I know Ranka is 15, Alto is 16 and Sheryl is 17, but Ranka just looks like too much of a kid with Alto... hah

As for ep 5, I too loved the scenes in the mall. I'm wondering why Klan needed to micronize since it seems like they support full-size Zentraedi's ok.

I liked how the mall had walkways just for the humans. I guess it would suck if you mistakingly went out onto the regular Zentraedi path and got stepped on...

:guffaw:

One thing I wasn't clear on- is Macross Galaxy a separate colonization fleet somewhere else, or simply another ship in the Frontier Fleet?

At the end, the way that Valk folded in from elsewhere seemed to indicate the former, but I wasn't sure. I didn't expect that the various colonization fleets would maintain contact with one another, although I suppose there is no reason why they couldn't.

Also, did it seem to anyone else like Ranka's singing was responsible for reviving the Vajra in captivity?

Macross Galaxy is a separate colony fleet. As for the Vajra, I say it's a safe bet that it's affected by singing-- that is, afterall, a central theme in Macross. But who created them is the bigger mystery, at least for me; for some reason I don't think they're a product of Protoculture or Protodevlin.

The Galaxy is another colonization fleet, the little narration at the beginning says that the fleets are mostly self-sustained "BUT" need the occasional resupply so that tells me that they do have contact with outside sources. I think every colonization fleet has one SDF type lead vessel that the fleet is named after. The Galaxy would be that vessel in the other fleet I believe just like Frontier is the Frontier's one.

and Ranka seems to hae some type of connection with triggering the Varja since her singing did it and back in the 2nd episode when Alto rescued her and she shifted in the plane and accidentily got groped and screamed out the Varja seemed to 'sense' her.

Ranka's VA has a pretty darn good voice if I do say so myself. Much more noticable to me in episode 5 than when she was singing in the Miss Macross competition.

Anyhow, this was probabally one of my favorite non-action scenes from the series so far.

Yes I think her VA is doing a very good job considering this is her first ever role. She won a nationwide audition to cast the role of Ranka, much like Mari Iijima won the nationwide audtion to voice Minmay in the original Macross.

I thought she sounded good on the song in she song at the end of the episode when you think of how much of it included english phrases. I've heard a lot of really bad engrish singing from Japanese singers or in animes and hers was good for a native japanese speaker.

This is a little conjecture on my part, but it seems to fit. The previous Macross series, Macross 7, involved the adventures of Macross Galaxy, also known as the 7th Macross Fleet. The alphabet "G" is also the 7th alphabet. Following this logic, does this mean Macross Frontier is the 6th Macross Fleet because "F" is the 6th alphabet in English?

I love all the little connections with past Macross series. I like the fact that Ranka's singing triggered the Vajra. It reminds me of Firebomber's music spiritia effect in Macross 7. Together with the distress call from Macross Galaxy/7, I can't help but suspect Firebomber also attracted the Vajra's to the Galaxy fleet.

The Galaxy is the name of the fleet near the Frontier fleet that Sheryl is from, the name of the fleet in Macross 7 was simply "Macross 7" the city portion was called city-7 and then the SDF part was Battle-7.

The confusing thing is from what was said in Macross 7, the fleet itself was called the 37th immigration fleet to leave earth, but the start of Frontier's narration says that Frontier is leading the 25th colonization fleet.

So perhaps the Frontier actually left Earth prior to Macross 7? Or they simply changed the naming structure of the fleets. Both shows had the same director so it could also be that since this is the 25th anniversary of the original series they just decided to use 25 for the fleet designation even though it didn't jive with what was done before.

My bad... I somehow assumed that no slums, a chemical plant and no giant sized Zentraedi makes Macross Galaxy equals Macross 7.

However, I did a quick check and each fleet is actually composed of two sub-fleets, a civilian and a military fleet. For example, in Macross 7 the fleet is comprised of both the civilian 37th immigration/colonial fleet AND the 7th Macross fleet.

I imagine its the same with Frontier, with the 25th immigration/colonial fleet and a military fleet with an unknown number?

Episode 06 / "Bye Bye Sheryl" JUST aired!

I must say this series has surprised me. I thought they were simply going to try and cash in on the anniversary but they've put out a high quality product with this series. I also think it goes without saying that its probably the prettiest show this season. It has one hell of a budget.

Superb build up in tension leading up to the launch of the Macross Quarter. The mixing of the ED was also handled great, it also doesn't hurt that Diamond Crevasse is a good song.

Week after week it's been pretty solid episodes. It's great seeing the old bridge crew back! I'm half expecting Lam to shout at Captain Wilder for lighting his pipe on the bridge.

Did you guys notice the e-mail address on Elmo's (Ranka's new manager) card?!?

I can't WAIT for #7.

I think this series has the most jaw-droppingly awesome animation quality of any full-length series that I've ever watched.

Just watching the scenes is beautiful, throw in a compelling storyline and an awesome musical soundtrack and it's out of the park good.

lol I did notice that the manager uses minmay for his email address :D

The name of the company is probably also a bit of an in-joke since it's Vector Promotions, while VICTOR entertainment is the company that has handled the music side of I think every single macross series.

Infact I think they were the ones who originally held the first auditions to find Minmay's voice actress back in the early 80s.

The next episode looks like it should be a very awesome space battle, I can't wait.

True the only thing that I've seen this year that looked even remotely as good as this series was a short little 3 episode miniseries called ICE.

The 'Roy Fokker' style character- can't remember his name right off the bat, but Ranka's big bro.
