New Line, which is developing the “MacGyver” movie, has tapped Jason Richman to pen the script.
Just as “MacGruber” hits theaters, the TV show that inspired the parody is making strides in its journey to the big screen.
http://riskybusiness.hollywoodrepor...-hired-to-jury-rig-macgyver-script-exclusive/If hiring Richman is any indication, New Line plans to make “MacGyver” straight-faced but still keep it fun. The WME-repped writer did uncredited work on “Rush Hour 3,” wrote the Chris Rock-Anthony Hopkins action comedy “Bad Company” and worked on a draft of “Beverly Hills Cop 4.”
Raffaella De Laurentiis is producing “MacGyver” through her Raffaella Prods. along with Martha De Laurentiis and series creator Lee Zlotoff. Dino De Laurentiis is executive producing.
He'd better be sporting a mullet or the movie will be an epic FAIL!

I just think the original stands well on its own, and I see no need for a remake that will with all likelihood, judging by the slew of bad remakes we've seen in recent years, be horrible.^You know what would be original and refreshing? If people on the Internet would stop assuming that upcoming movies will be awful based on one or two sentences' worth of information about them.
And I'm perfectly entitled to express that opinion without being declared prejudiced or accused of making snap judgments.
Yeah, 10 years ago I would of been all for it, but I don't think it would be a good idea now. I'd be more keen on a Magnum P.I movie though.
I just hope they play it straight and don't try to make it a parody or a Will Ferrell vehicle or something. Keep it authentic -- an adventure story about a brilliant, resourceful do-gooder hero who solves problems with his wits and abhors guns and violence.
Wasn't the WB tossing around the idea of a young MacGyver show a few years back? I remember something along the lines of Mac's young hip nephew basically doing the same sort of job his old uncle did, only with a cool pop song at the end of every episode ala Smallville.
Hmm, probably best it never happened.

Hasn't this been in development hell for years already?

In November 2009, the producer Brian Grazer dismissed the rumor that Matthew McConaughey will play the lead in the upcoming Magnum P.I. movie adaptation, produced by his company, Imagine Entertainment.
With a script and director Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball) already on board, casting has been the project's biggest problem. Grazer told MTV: "I think the idea for 'Magnum P.I.' is to find a counterpoint, to not try and find the new Tom Selleck but to find someone that is just so different
^Well, "Trumbo's World" was largely based on stock footage from the 1954 film The Naked Jungle.
