The thing there was that I thought Margaret was attracted his Winchester's supposed wealth more than anything else. I'm glad that was pretty much over with quickly.
The Margaret/Hawkeye thing culminated with their very brief "hook up" in that episode where they were stranded. Basically, it didn't work out.
Didn't work out as a continuing relationship, but they remained close after that.
In the episode "Are You Now Margaret" where a congressional aide comes to the camp intent on hauling Margaret before a committee to testify about her friends and acquaintances (effectively ruining her Army career), the Swamp rats and Klinger conspire to photograph the guy trying to get Margaret into bed.
At the very end, when the aide leaves in a huff, Margaret (if you watch the very end of the scene) literally jumps into Pierce's arms with joy. Despite the fact that Winchester and Honeycutt are both standing there.
And yeah, Margaret was attracted to Winchesters money (as well as his supreme surgical skill)........but that is one thing that attracted her to her husband as well.
It is heavily implied that Donald Pennopscotts family was old money as well and very socially conscious.
