Luke Skywalker's Character Problem in Star Wars The Last Jedi

So instead of actually re-creating Diagin Ally and Hogwarts, Universal would have gotten a bigger response creating something LIKE Hogwarts called Lampgreen?

Following on from my previous point about the somewhat half-assed park design in the Wizarding World, I remember visiting during college and chatting with a girl at one of the stands, when she mentioned she was trying to get her managers to push for a more climatologically-appropriate costume, since dressing in fuzzy outfits meant to look at home in the northern UK during the height of a Florida summer was not particularly comfortable.

Also, 15 minutes of screentime for Mos Eisley, over endless replays of VHS, DVD and Blue Rays for 40 years.
I truly cannot overstate how unimpressive Mos Eisely seemed for those of us who first saw Star Wars in a post-Star Wars world. A bunch of monochrome trash and insert shots of aliens that looked cheesier than what we saw every week on TNG.

And, following on from the other posters asking you about what's so damn attractive about Mos Eisely that makes you want to the place the movies themselves go to great pains to established as the shittiest spot in the galaxy, why would you prefer to go to the parched desert world of Tatooine when it's pouring rain one out of five days?

That's going real well for Dinsey. Especially since it fits into the ewn films which no one cares about

When I visit home for the holidays and steal away for a day to visit Galaxy's Edge, would you be so kind as to comp my ticket price if I have to spend a lot of time waiting in lines? Because, honestly, while I realize it makes me a bad fan, a bad capitalist, and a bad American to not filter all my tastes through the lens of who's winning at stock prices and highest-grossing opening weekends, all the endless bitching that Galaxy's Edge is only operating at 70% of maximum capacity on average just makes me think, hey, more Star Wars Land for me. You're talking to someone who did the Spider-Man ride at Universal five times in row during Grad Night just because there was no line. The idea I could do all six seats in the Millennium Falcon in one day and find get a table in the themed restaurant without an hour-long wait sounds like the real goddamn Magic Kingdom to me.

yeah with those trailers and the name SW .. the biggest franchise in the world .. the first films would make a lot, but they didn't plan out a story ot lay track for it, now one cares. Disney is in panic mode trying to bring people into the park. Iger originally said he would not need to advertise GE.. but guess what i see everywhere

It's actually over 4.8 billion.

PFFT. Is that all? I've been told by people on the internet that NO ONE cares about those movies, so it must be true!

So, if this next one makes a billion dollars what Goal Post Moving will you do then?

Believe me .. at bottom I understand why they did it this way. I don't need it explained. But having it work of a sketchilly drawn universe that has split the fandom is not going to bode well in the long term.

From action figures to movies to theme parks, literally EVER new piece of Star Wars in any medium "splits" the fandom.

You will never get 100% consensus on anything Star Wars ever again. It's impossible to make everyone happy and it's foolish to even try.

So instead of actually re-creating Diagin Ally and Hogwarts, Universal would have gotten a bigger response creating something LIKE Hogwarts called Lampgreen? Come on! Also, 15 minutes of screentime for Mos Eisley, over endless replays of VHS, DVD and Blue Rays for 40 years.

Once again, they are completely different franchises with their own qualities, their own rules, their own identities.

Saying that people have watched SW for forty years (yeah, no shit) doesn't mean that Mos Eisley is a great idea for a theme park. They also watched Yavin that much and Dagobah that much Hoth that much and all of those planets would have made for shitty ass theme parks.

The fact that you can't tell the difference doesn't between Star Wars and Harry Potter doesn't speak well for you. If Harry Potter was set across 20 different magical schools or magical villages, then, yeah, I'd guess there was a great chance that the park might create their own amalgam of the Harry Potter universe and just settling on one of those schools wouldn't be the best idea they could have come up with.

Why the hell didn't everyone complain that the Indiana Jones ride wasn't set in the Well of Souls? Because that was just one part of a much larger franchise. Instead, that ride evokes the concept and feel of the Indiana Jones universe, just as Batuu distills the essence of Star Wars.

Ha. Great point. Even if we go with Special Edition Mos Eisley, which looks more lively and more populated than the original version, the town is still a crappy-looking, sandblasted desert. It's not pretty to look at. Batuu has a similar "frontier" feel, but it at least is surrounded by (faux) natural beauty and has the freedom to look nice and be comfortable, unshackled by fealty to what was "in the movies."

And I didn't even think of the rain issue! Hilarious. It would be pouring rain in that Tatooine desert constantly.

BTW, how did the galaxy's edge conversation wind up in (one of many) Last Jedi threads and not in, say, the ACTUAL Galaxy's Edge thread...?

have you noticed a lack of buzz for TroS.. have you forgotten that merchandise no longer flies off the shelf, that the last film they released lost money
It doesn't? Which is why I can't find the merchandise? Man, I wish I was more in the loop about LFL financials as the Internet keeps claiming.

As for TRoS buzz, times change and marketing is much shorter in this day and age of soundbites. But, I'm sure TRoS will be an abject failure and prove all the haters correct. How glorious for the franchise.

Okay. Let us consider something here. Disney has invested a lot into this new set of parts for both Disneyland and Disney World. They might expand to others, though I don't think the others have the space needed. These new places can easily be modified as things happen....and things will happen. Not just Rise of Skywalker this year, but also TV (net) series are coming. Plus we have at least six films (two trilogies) in the works for the next decade. That's a lot of Star Wars, and Disney's in the perfect position to use those parks to rack up more monies. Not just ticket sales...but stuff purchased in the park. Back in either 1987 or 88, I went to Disneyland. Did the brand new Star Tours a couple of times....and purchased the Sourcebook for the West End Games Star Wars Roleplaying Game...for $18.00 (I think its the cheapest sourcebook I every got really). They can make money at this. They at a lightsaber building shop there and probably a droid workshop as well.

  • We have a teaser trailer.
  • We’ve had the big Vanity Fair spread.
  • We know the date of Force Friday.
  • This weekend is D23 where there will likely be some news about TRoS. Maybe even a trailer!
  • And there’s still about four months until release.
As for the action figures, it has been over a year since a major Star Wars film release. Online shopping has become a thing. And frankly, at least for me, personally, it’s been a long time since I’ve gotten into merchandise collecting outside of behind the scenes books. But I have friends who still do a lot of it. I think the idea of merchandise flying off the shelves has changed.

pls don't kid yourself. No one cares about REy. Batuu is not Mos Eisley. There is no Vader. it's generic SW to be sure, the Dollar general version of it. Oh I'm sure you can find toys based on some of the new stupid creatures on it. Only Disney would be so stupid to make a park of an IP without including the best icons form the IP
This really shows that you don't even know what they have there. Stop talking about things you are ignorant of.

have you noticed a lack of buzz for TroS..

You mean in August for a movie that's being released in December?
Hm. I saw a poster at my local theater the other day.
People are talking about it here...
How many views has the trailer gotten?

have you forgotten that merchandise no longer flies off the shelf,

That's not a uniquely Star Wars thing. Merch does not sell like it used to.

that the last film they released lost money

No. It didn't. Now, you're resorting to lying. #Sad

Solo lost the studio money. FACT

Solo did lose money. That is absolutely true. But there are many reasons why Solo didn't do well at the box office. The divisiveness of The Last Jedi is only a small part of that. (I don't even really agree with some of what this article I posted, but it does list many reasons I know played a part.)

I mean, technically, by Hollywood accounting, ROTJ was reported to have continually lost money. I guess that film isn't successful either.

It still amazes me that that's true but it absolutely is.
