Lower Expectations, says Discovery Writer.

You have me curious. Why, exactly? Earth can still have its optimistic utopia while various other races and planets have their particular challenges and hopes for a better future. Everything in the universe is a dynamo derived from change. Just as a dam gets it's power from a change in water level, there is no drama or change without overcoming obstacles. The longer the water has to fall, the bigger the obstacle, the more power you get from a story of epic drama.
Because Game of Thrones prides itself on killing people for no reason. Hard for me to get invested when that person might die.
People who don't watch Game of Thrones, foolishly assume that it's 40 minutes of hard core porn every episode.
Yes, that's exactly why I don't like it

It has nothing to do with the generally unlikable people, random deaths, excessive violence and a backstory that makes Dune feel like a book for 5 year olds.

I wouldn't say no reason. There are usually plot or character driven reasons for the deaths. Though investing in single characters isn't the best choice in that show. ;)

I only saw the first series of it and that was only because people told me I must see it. I never bothered with the second series. Not my thing. And I still can't understand why it's so popular.

I don't generally enjoy character deaths as a rule, so it's not really for me then ;)

Also, I really think the writers take some pleasure in killing off characters for the shock value.

Interesting characters, interesting world, cinematic visuals and production...

Well early on the deaths were driven by what had happened in the books. They've strayed from that a bit. But the first death was definitely driven by turning expectations on their head.

I'm hoping for the best. But if it can't keep up with things like Westworld, Mr. Robot or Game of Thrones, Discovery will likely be short lived.

Exactly. Love it or hate it Game of Thrones is the best thing on television right now. I'll be extremely happy if Discovery is half as good or half as successful.
