I recently watched Lower Decks. I thought I read somewhere that Sito Jaxa turned up alive. I assume it was in one of the novels?

I think it was actually the Starship Creator computer game that had her show up alive. I don't remember any novels.

Try checking Memory Beta? I tried myself, but for some reason I can't get the browser page to load tonight. Technology, technology.

A computer game had her come back alive? I never knew that. They had considered having her get rescued in DS9, but then decided against it. Sad- I wish she would have been rescued.

She was at one point intended to turn up alive in an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Ronald D. Moore stated: "We talked about this for quite awhile, but then decided that bringing Sito back would rob 'Lower Decks' of a great ending." The proposed story would have found Sito in a Cardassian prison and would climax with her killing her own cellmate. Elements of the story were ultimately recycled into the DS9 episode "Hard Time".

my own personal opinion is i hope they didn't find her alive . i think that would take something away from the episode . i liked the character , but this is dangerous work and not everyone comes home at the end of the work day . i think it was well written episode and a good dramatic choice .
to have her survive would have undercut all the drama they had built into it.
the best storys sometimes don't always have happy endings .

Quote from Memory Beta:

In fact, Sito was captured by the Cardassian military, and sent to a Cardassian penal colony. She was later returned to the Federation following a prisoner exchange in 2372. After receiving treatment and counseling, Sito returned to active duty and was assigned to the USS Norway as an operations officer. (ST video game: Starship Creator)

I agree that her turning up alive on DS9 would ruin the ending of Lower Decks. But it could have been worse. She turns up on Voyager after its revealed that she somehow got to the badlands during her escape and got stranded in the Delta Quadrant...

I always hated the ending. I consider it stupid, because she's the only one (aside from Ogawa) who gets any attention. They spend so much time building up her redemption theme, and then she conveniently gets killed before it actually gets resolved. I also find it interesting how Picard announced her death so quickly, since they went to such trouble to keep the mission secret to begin with. I don't think that's normally the case.

That would have been cool!! :guffaw:

I think they did well with the episode. The buildup of her redemption, only to have it cut short is a dose of reality that we all face every day. So I think it was a good decision.

Meh, I'm kind of the opposite. I think doing that killed the character potential for me, and that she only died as a convenient plot device. :p

^^^
That's a bit backwards. "Convenient plot devices" turn up happy endings.
Anything that would have brought her back to the land of happily ever after would have been a convenient plot device.

This was a well written "sometimes crap happens" type of story. Nothing convenient about it at all. :)
