Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

That's a joke, right?
More of a simplification. Typically the casts on most shows have five year contracts, after which their contracts are renegotiated which does entitle the actors to raises. However this is not always the case and there is no rule that says "price automatically goes up after five years." Likewise, I am unsure of the situation regarding actor contracts on Lower Decks or if that was a factor in the decision to end it.

All that said, it's not unusual for shows to voluntarily pull the plug after five seasons in modern times, particularly streaming shows. Granted, it wasn't voluntarily with Lower Decks, we know they were hoping for a sixth season, but I wouldn't be too shocked if someone higher up at Paramount decided "five years is a good run" and made the decision to axe Lower Decks. Not unlike what happened with Disco.

Thank you for explaining it further. Yes, mine was brief but the point was that it's not a guarantee that just because a show is popular that it must be renewed.

I agree that it probably wasn't voluntary but I didn't find it unexpected either. Money is premium right now for Paramount.

Probably old news for some, but I just saw the Lower Decks action figures that will come with the first wave of figures from Master Replicas (article). I think they look pretty cool and fun. Love the amount of articulation and that they committed to the cartoonish look. But … why no Rutherford!?! Hopefully this first line does well, so that we’ll be getting him, T'Lyn and maybe one of the “upper deckers” in the second wave (either Shax or Ransom would be my preference). *fingers crossed*

The back of the packaging as seen in this picture would seem to indicate there are plans for Rutherford, Freeman, Ransom, Shaxs, T'Ana and Badgey.

Oh, sweet! Shame they don’t seem to plan for T’Lyn then. Thought she was pretty popular. Heck, I was under the impression they made her a series regular on the positive fan reaction from her otherwise one-off appearance alone.

Pretty cool to see they plan to do the Strange New Worlds cast, too. Don’t think I’ll be able to resist getting some of them.

~ Because I've already pre-ordered ALL of them. Mwah hah hah hah haaaaaa!!!!

...

But really, even though I've never bought any action figures - and I think £25 a pop is pretty steep for these - when Rutherford is released, I'll snap up a copy.
I've got my eye on the Exo-6 figures, too - not the static ones which cost $160?!?! - but the 1/6 size collectible replicas. Boimler looks AMAZING!! As well he should for nearly $250 + $25 shipping. If Exo-6 bring out a Rutherford version I don't know what I'll do?

I finally got myself the season 5 key art poster print from VicePress I had been eyeing for a few weeks and I’m genuinely blown away by how cool this looks. It’s the foil variant, which comes printed on some sort of metallic, iridescent paper, giving the print a beautiful otherworldly touch and depth. I could stare at this for hours. I love the design by Matt Ferguson, mostly because it includes T’Lyn (which is almost always omitted on the other posters) but also because of all the references to storylines from the final season. And I love fun references like Mariner giving the sarcastic Vulcan salute.

The print quality and crisp detail on this is insane, as my photos hopefully show. The rainbow foil effect is hard to capture in still images, which is why I also made a quick video that demonstrates it in motion. If you can get your hands on this, I can definitely recommend, as this is surely now the most beautiful poster I ever owned …

Also, probably old news to most, but Seán Ferrick of TrekCulture did a nice little interview with Jack Quaid. Apart from the general enthusiasm he expresses for his time on Lower Decks, his co-stars and voice acting in general, the most interesting thing to come out of this is probably him saying that he would love to return to his role as Boimler, especially if it were live action. And he says that Mike McMahan had more stories to tell and that fans should stay vocal about wanting more Lower Decks.
