Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

What I'm wondering, with only three episodes left, which one's going to have the multiple Harry Kims show up we saw in the trailer?
Looking at the three remaining episode titles, my guess would be that either next week’s “Upper Decks” or the penultimate “Fissue Quest” will include Harry Kim. The latter positively sounds like it might end up concluding the ongoing storyline, while the final episode “The New Next Generation” possibly focusses on our Lower Deckers dealing with a new group of low-level ensigns coming aboard, taking the places they originally inherited way back in the beginning of the show. Would be kind of a neat bookend to the show. This week’s promotion of two of the characters to new positions kind of lets me think that that’s what they are going for.

Does anyone know the name of the song that plays at the end of season 4, as Tendi's ship goes to warp? It seems to be a theme associated with Tendi, but I've been unable to find out which theme it is.

Is it my imagination, or is no one anywhere online discussing this season much? Traffic/comments seem down everywhere.

Not sure why there would be such a drop off. Have international streaming rights been lost by someone since Season 4 came out?
Part of the problem might be people planning on watching it eventually, but not considering the show essential enough to warrant paying for Paramount+ week to week if nothing else on the service is particularly interesting. I'm only dipping in now because I got a great Black Friday promo on P+/Showtime, which'll see four months of the service cost like $6 in total. And I like the show enough to buy each season on Blu-ray.

There is a ton of backlogged streaming content in general. I signed up for Peacock for the first time, and there are at least ten shows I've never heard of that both look interesting enough to watch their pilots and most've cost a ton of money to produce. Hell, watching only Netflix, it'd probably take at least a year for me to clear off my watchlist, and that's assuming nothing additional was added in the meantime.

At least one of the advantages established franchises like Star Trek and Dexter have is they will get people's attention, get them to move a show to the head of the line, and maybe even pay month to month for yet another streaming service.

In the first years of the show we had many people here freaking out about one aspect of the show or another (mostly Mariner’s zaniness, I guess), but those kind of viewers have probably tuned out by this point, come to terms with what the show is or feel it has changed to be less of a thing to talk about. At least these are my theories, haha.
Early season 1 really is a major barrier of entry to the show. You almost need someone holding your hand telling you start with 108, keep going, and maybe after season 3 if you're still there go back and watch the early ones.

But even compared to last season, engagement is way down. Extremely, not like a slight decline.

Anyone who figured it was worth the free trial of P+ did it last series and isn't able to do it again.

And personally, I didn't do it then either.

Why they didn't do a deal with Amazon again for the non-US market is an open question only answered with "because they're fucking stupid". They managed with PIC S3. Why not this?

I won't pirate, but the best clips will eventually show up on YT and I'd rather wait for the Blu-Rays than subscribe to a service for ONE SHOW. Same with Disney+ and the MCU/SW shows. There's just not enough there THERE to justify it.

Season 4 did have a quality drop off and there's been a much longer gap between Star Trek projects on P+.

If you wanted to watch each episode as it aired, P+ would cost more than just buying the Blu-ray when it eventually came out. Star Trek does amazingly well on Blu-ray. At least two PRODIGY releases have charted in the Top Ten of sales.

STLD season 3 was originally a manufacture-on-demand release (essentially they made much lower batches so they wouldn't have the risk of overstock, and wouldn't distribute in brick and mortar stores like Walmart, Target, and (then) Best Buy). But after a year the MOD was discontinued and the season was re-issued for wide release and international distribution. I've collected a ton of Blu-ray over the years, and I can't think of a single case of an individual season being MOD and then re-issued widely domestically.

~ This is me. I absolutely LOVE Lower Decks and can't wait to see season 5, but I'm waiting for all episodes to have been released before I sign up for P+ to watch them (over and over again) in a week or month (whatever kind of trial period is available) because, as you mentioned, there's nothing else on the service that interests me. It does mean that I feel a bit disappointed that I can't really join in with the current LDS episode reviews/chats and other LDS threads, though.
I've recently signed back up to Netflix (for The Umbrella Academy, Invisible City, and the Studi Ghibli films) and discovered that it still carries Star Trek shows TOS to ENT and PRO (I'm in the UK - I know it may be different elsewhere), so other than missing SNW, I don't need another streaming service such as P+.
I will buy the BluRay once it comes out, though!

I don’t know what it is but I haven’t been impressed with this season. It’s been a hit and miss with each episode.
I've also been struggling to pin down why exactly this season hasn't been working as well for me. All my complaints are things the earlier seasons did as well, but it was fine when they did it.

Though I did notice that the show has different writers this year. Aaron Burdette and May Darmon are each credited for a single episode in season 4, otherwise all the names are new.

Interesting! Isn’t that a Defiant style engine room in the Mariner image?
