My friend Chris, to put it kindly does not care for any of the new stuff since the Kelvin timeline. But Lower Decks, he's enjoying it thoroughly.
Lower Decks is an animated sitcom about die-hard Star Trek nerds, except they actually live in the Star Trek universe.
Random Thought: Is Rutherford screwed in Picard's time? They didn't let Riker and Troi's kid have cybernetics.
Cybernetics weren't banned, It was synthetic lifeforms, which includes the positronic matrix required to cure Thaddeus.
Nothing says Rutherford's implant uses a positronic matrix.

Since we're nearing the end of the second season, I've arrived at some things.
On a whole, I don't think this season was as strong as last season, BUT, I think it is managing to do a lot of things better than last season.
It's switching up the character dynamic a lot. The first season put Mariner/Boimler and Tendi/Rutherford in their own respective situations or just kept them together for various scenes and mostly stayed that way.
The second season has made huge strides in flipping it around by placing Mariner with Tendi or Boimler with Rurtherford, or in another example having Mariner, Tendi, and Rutherford together. The show as much acknowledges this when Tendi expresses in disappointment in Mariner not knowing her first name.
They've also managed to introduce some genuine drama into various situations where I actually thought, "Oh shit!"; fearful of what could happen.
While humor is obviously a huge part of the show, I'm finding there's less emphasis on things being played for laughs and instead the laughs just come out of the situations. I said on my podcast that I think where the show works best is when it introduces a basic plot that could easily be seen on any of the TNG era shows, but Lower Decks comes at it from a comedic angle where as TNG, DS9, or Voyager would've done it more dramatically.

It just now occurred to me that most of the regular cast of Quark are still alive, if rather old. So far as I know, only Richard Kelton (Ficus) and Alan Caillou (The Head) have died (Kelton from CO poisoning from a defective heater in a studio trailer; Caillou presumably from old age).
It would be nice for a current science fiction comedy series to tip the hat to an early one. (Yes, I know, My Favorite Martian came first.)

Anyone know why they aren't doing the weekly Ready Room aftershows anymore? All this season, there's only been one episode, and was curious whether this was announced before or not?
Didn't the first season only have the Ready Room for the premiere and finale?
They announced after the premiere that they will be back after the finale. Only the live-action shows get every episode aftershows it seems, which is a pity.
It's not unlike Talking Dead for the Walking Dead shows. While every episode of Walking Dead has a Talking Dead after it, the spin-offs only have a Talking Dead for key episodes like their premieres, finales and midseason premieres and finales.

I wonder if the Klingon Boimler turned against his captain not because he was trying to overthrow the Federation but they would be the laughing stock of the Empire if it was found out they were using PAKLEDS as their shock troops.
Indeed. He already asserted that it was dishonorable in using others to fight their battles for them. Compounding the dishonor with Pakleds? Yeah... not much to return home to after that. It was definitely an ill-conceived plan, for a Klingon, anyway. Romulans, however, wouldn’t have given it a second thought.

It’s weird how fast the season finale is upon us in just a few days.
And sad. Really liked this season.
Boy, that site has a lot of ads.

I don't even try to watch their vid's anymore.
