Its like everyone is forgetting transporters exist and site-to-site transports aren't unknown.

Maybe this ship was designed around having site-to-site transports as part of its internal transportation system, or maybe there are turbolifts that go horizontal along the nacelles.

This is the opposite of a big deal.

I imagine the Nickelodeon show will be the deepest, smartest of the CBS outings to date. You can’t really offend children.

    Seems rather energy intensive.

Not sure anyone has made it a “big deal”. There just isn’t much else to talk about, because CBS hasn’t released much with a month to go.

No doubt it'll be smartly written and won't talk down to kids. And also no doubt this was just as much to rightly talk up the Nickelodeon show as it was to knock down everything else.

Little from column A, little from column B. As I haven’t found the product to date particularly deep or smart. And Nickelodeon has a good track record of making smart kids programming.

    But anyway, Lower Decks.

I'm glad they've got Jerry O'Connell. I liked him on Sliders which, for a while, was FOX's answer to Star Trek until they fucked it up.

Star Trek, Sliders, Stargate SG-1. The great trio of 90s science fiction.

Sliders so desperately needs a reboot. The concept was amazing and the first 2 seasons were really enjoyable. Then... yikes.

The ship design could have been better. That's not going to stop me from checking out the show, though.

Precisely. I’m very much looking forward to it. Just in time too, I was about to cancel my CBSAA subscription until Disco S3 was going to be released.

And I just finally cancelled my subscription the day before. I figured as soon as I cancel, they'd announce something big, and they did not disappoint.

    You're welcome.

I just saw a theory that the saucer is not inseparable connected, but the engines are actually part of a Warp Sled.
Kinda cool concept for a full sized starship, we haven’t seen before.
And you can sort of see the lineage with Spock’s warp sled shuttle from TMP even.

Admittedly, I was not super excited about this series. The SDCC promotional videos changed my mind somewhat, and the Trek drought has me much more excited than I'd probably be. Bring it on!

Looking at the 3d print I have to agree. Reminds me of the Ptolemy class and that 3d print reminds of the FASA Star Fleet Battles tactical tug.

I guess I've seen too many starships to go "Oh, that doesn't fit."
Honestly, for SF Stargate, Invisible Man and Farscape would be my desired trio. 90s Trek couldn't compete with those.
