Lost from the beginning (NO SPOILERS)

Some of these comments are coming really close to being spoilers, guys. Things like your feelings about characters based on things that haven't been shown yet.

Careful. We're all enjoying reading this. Let's not ruin it for Odo.

^
Yeah, I was thinking much the same thing. Let's not inflict our views - and prejudices - on OdoWan. He's quite capable of arriving at his own conclusions as he watches. ;)

We already had this problem at the start of OdoWan's threads, and now a certain someone who needs to push his Lost opinions on everyone else isn't about to pass up this opportunity. :(

Maybe we could list the names of all the posters he should block. :)

To be fair, I did first mention Nikki and Paulo as "these two idiots." I don't mind if people state their opinions of characters. Let's just make sure not to mention events that I haven't reached yet.

I Do:

To the Kate and Sawyer plot line I just have to say this:  So Kate finally decides to get it on with either Sawyer or Jack. Sawyer just happened to be closer. I guarantee if it had been Jack in that cage, it would have been him she would have slept with. Eh, I really can't care.

Jack tells Ben pretty harshly that he's not going to do the surgery. He changes his mind however, when Alex lets him out and he see Sawyer and Kate getting horizontal on the security cam. Of course, nothing can go without a hitch, and Jack sabotages the surgery. Now Ben is lying bleeding to death, and Jack demands that Kate and Sawyer be let go.

The non-captives bury Eko. At the funeral, Locke sees something interesting on the Jesus-stick. It's what seems to be a message to him disguised as scripture. "Lift up your eyes and look north. John 3:05" I looked up the actual bible passage. it's not entirely accurate. But the change suggests that it's a message from Eko directly to Locke. Did Eko somehow know he was going to die, and wanted to leave behind something to direct Locke?

In the flashback, Kate continues to be a total bitch. This time, however, it's to Malcolm Reynolds, which pisses me off even more. It really feels like the writers keep forcing Kate on us. I can't stand her, and the more they try to make me, the more I resist.

By the way, this Pickett guy has some real anger management issues. I know he's grieving, but Sawyer had nothing to do with that woman's death. What the hell's his problem?

And now you must wait several months to watch the rest of the season.

...What? We had to do that after those six episodes of almost no movement whatsoever. :p

I made a very general remark about Nikki/Paolo--nothing specific was made at all other than my general opinions of the characters. So I'm not sure what you are referring to.

My comments about the episodes themselves were the reactions I had when I first watched them.

As for "I Do" I agree it was very mediocre. Kate just isn't an interesting character. In fact, I prefer her when the spotlight isn't directly on her and she comes off better when she is in the thick of things with everyone else facing some crisis and we get to see her react.

And the love triangles just aren't something I have ever had much interest in on most serialized shows--DS9, Heroes, BSG, here--simply because they are always so much more uninteresting than all the more exciting stuff going on.--You just want to fast forward through those type of scenes.

And for an episode meant to serve as a fall finale the cliffhanger was just okay and nothing that really would have you on the edge of your seat having to agonizingly wait 3 months to see picked up. I did like Locke and Eko finally wonder about the monster. This was where I really was becoming disenchanted with the series.

I was thinking more about various comments regarding Ben and Juliet. To comment in certain ways regarding how you feel about a character (trying to be careful here myself) could imply how long or how short that character is with the show, or be informative about them. Even on a show where sudden deaths of major characters happen (see Eko--safe, since it's been mentioned already that he's dead).

Kinda interesting though, startrekwatcher, that you knew I was concerned about your posts in particular. Maybe you were aware you were cutting it kinda close? Are we all good, though? No problems between us?

I nervous about posting too much myself, so I'm trying to limit myself to comments about odowankenobi's comments and not about the show itself. Trying.

My comments betrayed nothing about any of those things.

Well it wasn't that difficult to figure out who you were referring to given I was pretty much the only one talking about Nikki/Paolo in regards to Odowankenobi's "two idiots" comment. I would have had to been an idiot not to put 2 and 2 together.

Again I don't think anyone could glean anything about what lies ahead from my very general comments. Heck L/C or episode trailers or even TV Guide episode descriptions give away more.
Maybe you were aware you were cutting it kinda close?
No, I wasn't cutting it close or even kinda cutting it close. I went back and re-read my comments--they were perfectly fine. I think you are overreacting. Believe me I have experienced careless knuckleheads spoiling stuff as I have read through threads and avoid doing that to other posters. That is why I usually stay out of threads of tv shows that I really enjoy until after the series ends because I don't want to read spoilers.

Ah. As I said, I was thinking more about Ben and Juliet than Nikki and Paolo. I was concerned that in some posts you were discussing your like/dislike of them to an extent that further information would be provided by you or others, commenting on your posts.

I'm not a cop here. I'd just hate to see it ruined for odo. Since you feel the same way, there's no problem. But it's all good, right?

Ok, ok, let's calm it down, people. I have my own opinions about Ben and Juliet completely uninfluenced by others. Don't worry. People are allowed to state their opinions here. Ben I still can't quite get a handle on, but Juliet I liked pretty much right away. I don't know exactly why. Something about the character just clicked.

Not in Portland:

First time we get a little back story for one of the Others. Juliet is up. Let's see, she was a fertility researcher in Miami with a sick sister that she was using as her guinea pig. Her ex-husband is also her boss. She gets an exciting job offer from a company in Portland, but knows her ex will never let her leave. She wishes he would get hit by a bus.....so he does. Creepy. The representatives of this company show up suspiciously soon after. One of them just happens to be Ethan. They also reveal they'e not exactly based in Portland, but somewhere more remote. The island, I'm guessing. So is this company Dharma, or is it something else. We still don't know for sure exactly where the other came from. Are they the leftover Dharma people, or were they there even before? Juliet would seem to be a more recent addition than most of the Others. Are they actually able to come and go from the island at will?

In the present, Kate and Sawyer make their escape with Pickett giving chase. Alex intercepts them and helps them lose Pickett. She also offers them a boat on the condition that they help her boyfriend, who is being held in some kind of Clockwork Orange room. So they get him out, but he's still pretty catatonic.

In the operating room, Jack reveals Juliet's duplicity to Tom, and Ben reveals that he's been awake for a while. Ouch. Must be hella hard to stay quiet while your back is split open. He asks to speak to Juliet, and whatever she says convinces her to go help Kate and Sawyer. She catches up with them, and shoots Pickett dead. Kate, Sawyer, and Karl escape on the boat, but Alex is forced to stay. Afterwards Jack asks what Ben said to her. She says that he promised he would let her go home. Is Juliet just as much a prisoner as Jack is? Now that Jack has finished the surgery, what's going to become of him? Is Ben a man of his word? I don't know, but things finally seem to picking up.

Same here. Getting something of her back story just added to a very positive first impression of the character for me. :bolian:

Her ex being hit by a bus was one of those Lost-special jaw dropping moments for me. Be careful what you wish for, indeed.

Flashes Before Your Eyes:

Whoa! I think this is easily the best episode so far this season.

Desmond "hears" Claire drowning out at sea, even though he's a mile away. After her rescue, Charlie starts to wonder what's up. Hurley says what everyone else is thinking: Desmond can see the future. We finally get some answers (um...kinda) about what happened to Desmond when he blew the hatch. Namely, he went back in time.

Wait...he went back in time? Well, alright. It rather tragic, really. We see him ruin everything all over again. He tries his hardest to make a change in his life, to stay with Penny. When he's going to buy a ring, the jeweler suddenly starts saying things a jeweler typically doesn't. She tells Desmond that he has a destiny he can't escape. Everyone does. Even if changes are made, the universe has a way of course correcting. So Desmond is again forced to break up with Penny, and take all the steps that lead him to the place he ended up. It's tragic, really. I think Desmond has been a great addition to the show. He's quickly become one of my favorite characters on the show. I hope that since we saw Penny at the end of the last season, that a reunion for the two is forthcoming. Of course, this being the show it is, I'm sure the reunion won't stay happy long.

Desmond drops another bombshell at the end. In the past, he was seeing flashes of his future on the island. Those flashes simply never stopped. What he really saw earlier that day was not Claire dying, but Charlie when he jumped in to save her. When the lightning would have hit Claire's roof, Charlie would have been killed. Looks like Charlie has suddenly become a character in a Final Destination movie. Desmond has averted death for him twice, but he can't do it forever. Charlie is going to die. Whoa. Is poor Charlie really doomed? I guess I'll find out soon.

Congrats, you're officially past what's generally considered to be the low point of the season, if not the series. Er...by which I mean -before- this episode. :)

I know I'm repeating myself, but I'm so glad I started there...I mean granted we didn't know what the series would do back then, but to find out I got the worst part out of the way first...what a relief! :)

Stranger in a Strange Land:

I'm past the worst? Then what the hell was this?

The flashback is about how Jack got his tattoos. Seriously? How Jack got his tattoos? Could there possibly be a more irrelevant thing? He goes to Thailand, has some sex with Bai Ling, gets his ink done, then gets the crap beat out of him for getting said ink done. That's it. There's no more stories to tell in the flashbacks. I hope that they're either dropped soon, or something is done to make them relevant again.

Meanwhile on the island, he gets moved out of his cell. Now he's sitting in Sawyer's old cage. UGH! I'm getting really bored with this crap. Nine episodes now, NINE, of Jack sitting in a cell/cage as a captive. What happened to the rapid fire pace of the earlier seasons, piling mystery upon mystery, and answering mysteries with more mysteries? Nine episodes in which almost fuck all has happened. Jack is still in pretty much the same exact place he was in the first episode of the season. MOVE IT!

Congratulations. You have passed the weakest episodes of the show, IMO. There are hiccups along the line, to be sure, but nothing at the level of How Jack Got His Tatoos, or Charlie Gets Super Annoying and Steals Claire's Babay.

Hey, don't knock the flashbacks. They're a legitimate storytelling method for Lost. Just not for that episode.

Wait until you get to Vincent's flashback. It'll knock your socks off. :p
