According to the current theory, the candidates *can* kill themselves. (Assuming Sawyer's harebrained action actually caused the bomb to go off. Rather than the timer alone (which Jack thought would not be able to kill them)). Or they can kill each other but not themselves. I am confused by the rules. Can anybody think this thru and still have everything explained?

They can do both. We've seen several instances of Flight 815 survivors killing each other over the course of six seasons. Also, there have been individual deaths that were seemingly beyond those certain characters' control. But, we also saw an instance of an intentional suicide just last night when Jin allowed himself to drown despite having an opportunity to save himself. Call it what you will, but I'd chalk that up as Jin effectively killing himself.

Also how does SmokeyLocke know that people survived? Can he tell how *many* survived? Is he going to make sure about Desmond?

I would guess he knows that some survived because he still can't leave the island. I don't think there is any way for him to know exactly how many and who unless he's clairvoyant on top of being mostly non-corporeal. At this point, I don't think he has any reason to believe that Sayid didn't do as he asked, though he'll doubtless discover the truth about Desmond's well-being before all's said and done.

What if NotLocke cannot transform in to smokey when someone is looking at him. Thinking back to the cave, he got out of sight to transform. When they were attacked at the sub, he kept the Locke form when going into smokey form would be grant him a tactful advantage.

I for one like it when main characters die. It shows that anyone is expendable. Unfortunately, there are only 3 episodes left so it doesn't really matter.

The scene in the sub is enough to give this episode an Excellent.

At this point I'm assuming that Smokey is just the biggest, baddest ghost. The clanking sound is caused by all the links of his various otherworldly chains, and the only reason he has so much strength and power is due to the way in which he died on the island.

Ten to one when they zoom away for a top-view of the island, it's going to resemble a giant dream catcher.

What I want to know is why can't Cerebus travel over water? And why did dunking him in the water neutralize him? Perhaps he can only exist on the Island (and by extension Hydra Island and a canoe built from materials from the Island).

I'm starting to think I was right after all a year ago when I posted this thread.

Anyone who has interacted with Christian on the island ends up killed/dead and/or resurrected.

Claire -- well, we don't know for sure, but it wouldn't be anything that we haven't hypothesized already.

Locke died and was resurrected upon returning to the island.

Little Ben has been shot, and it stands to reason that he will be resurrected. No way will the producers off such a major, popular character that way.

So, this leaves Sun, Lapidus, and Hurley.

I think Sun and Lapidus either died in the plane crash or are going to be killed at some point. They didn't make it to the '70s with the others, and later ran in to Christian.

That just leaves Hurley.

Jack also talked with him, albeit briefly, at the hospital.

--It may not be as simple as plainly talking to Christian. It could well have been simply being around Christian could do it too.

--When Jack talked to Christian, wasn't Christian still alive? If we are to believe though the Man in Black WAS posing as Christian when Jack saw him in the jungle, that could spell doom for Jack as well.

Why would it be too campy? There's already a Black Cloud of Smoke terrorizing people and we know it's him or at least one in the same, why not actually show him transform onscreen? This is the same show that has a CGI Hurley bird, CGI polar bears, a CGI Shark named Ezra James Sharkington III and CGI submarines. Personally I thought it was just a post production budget thing, I forget though did we actually see Eko's brother transform into the smoke?

Why would it be too campy? There's already a Black Cloud of Smoke terrorizing people and we know it's him or at least one in the same, why not actually show him transform onscreen? Someone turning into smoke crosses the line a little more if you ask me. Except for the smoke monster rampage, what you listed are just real-world things done in CGI. And no, we've never seen anyone turn from human to smoke or vice versa.

This episode held my attention but like a lot of this season I felt like something has been missing. Maybe my expectations were so high based on the previous seasons but this one hasn't clicked like I envisioned. I think I was expecting a more sweeping season long build-up and more of a focused approach.

I've been enjoying this season, but I have to completely agree with this assessment. I also expected more of a sharply focused story feeling like it was coming to an inevitable climax. In a way, I feel like the flash-sideways have been set up that way, but the on-island stuff has been pretty much what it's been for the past five seasons -- the guys running around on the island and dividing into various factions.

i still wonder if we will ever get to see MiB physically transform into a cloud of black smoke on screen, if not next week's episode, then most certainly hope the finale. I really hope it's not Black Smoke shooting in and out of his mouth, otherwise I would call that a blatant ripoff from Supernatural, hahaha, but then again Lost aired first I think.

I actually like that they never show a cheesy CGI transformation.

One point bugs me- how does not-Lock, this ancient being, know how to build a bomb out of C4 and a wristwatch?

Maybe he absorbed someone's knowlege of bomb-making.

He did. This guy crashed on the island in the early 90s.
