I guess I wasn't really expecting much of an explanation for the whispers at all, so I'm satisfied with what we got tonight. Perhaps the dead people do it to serve as a warning that something dangerous is approaching, but since nobody can actually talk to the dead people, all they perceive are whispers.

That's it exactly, I figure.

i wouldnt be suprised considering how much a screw up michael has been in the past that he got things turned around.
hurley wasnt supposed to talk to flocke but rather the spirit of locke.
i dont see a lot of good coming from talking to flocke.

My burnout on this show continues. Another "meh" night for me. I had DVR'd the season premier of Deadliest Catch on Discovery and watched it immediately after LOST and I have to say it was infinitely more interesting.

LOST has (no pun intended) lost it's appeal for me. I"m just watching now kind just to be a "completist." I guess I keep thinking that as we near the end something will really grab me, but so far, nada.

Why not take a break and wait for the DVDs and then watch them all at once. Or DVR Lost and watch all the episodes at once. Either way, save yourself the anguish of watching the episodes slowly and the rest of us the anguish of listening to you bitch every single week. :)

I had an interesting thought, what if Desmond in the flash sidewys is really Jacob. Just like the MIB who is for a lack of a better term inhabiting Lockes body on the island. Jacob is doing it in the flash sideways. So it is still Jacob bringing them back together. If you think about how Desmond has been acing, it's very Jacob like.

Hmmm. That really is an interesting thought..........

Gonna have to process on that for a while..........

I really liked this episode, probably because I like Hugo so much. I loved seeing him happy and finally getting his date with Libby. I found it quite touching and sweet.

Not too sure about Hugo's sudden about-face about the dynamite or his going to see unLocke.

I am very intrigued by Desmond. What does he know? Are sideways-Des and Island-Des know the same things? Are they somehow in touch with each other?

It almost seemed like sideways Des wanted revenge for what unLocke did to him, but then again, he clearly saw it coming. Maybe he's in on some big secret or maybe Jacob is talking to him?

Who knows? I just know I love this stuff.

An easy Excellent for me, and the first consecutive excellents this season not counting the 2-part premiere. Pretty much everything was spot on, and I see now why they've been spending so much time on the flash sideways universe...I feel like I needed to see all that setup to get the emotional payoff of those characters now beginning to Remember the island. Hurley and Libby at the beach was a wonderful scene, with altDes looking on. I'm loving his new mission.

There's no way Desmond is dead on the island...first, we didn't see him die, and second, Locke survived a similar fall last season. Plus he's not finished yet, and I've slowly but surely been feeling that we're going to get an epic return to the old hatch storyline with Des. The bits dropped this week like Locke reminding us (like we've forgotten ) how long Des was down there, to Desmond saying "Experience" was how he knew it was electromagnetic radiation are starting to add up. I foresee an awesome callback to season 2, which at this point is the only season that hasn't been rather important this year yet. Pretty much every wacky thing that's happened since the end of season 2 is traceable to Desmond turning that key.

Ilana blowing up...wow. And it didn't even merit a commercial break. Black Rock blowing up...wow. This really is the final season. That this show has remained so awesome for so long is remarkable, and I've invested entirely too much time and energy into loving Lost that they better not let us down in the end. :D

-curious about Ilana--that was one of the most abrupt out of the blue deaths I've ever seen. I have to believe that there is still more for her in the series.

Oh sweet jesus thank god she blew up. Every time she shows up I wonder why the hell she's on this show. She just kind of showed up, and hasn't been the least bit interesting. Just as she starts being all cranky and annoying, and I'm thinking to myself, "WHY CAN'T SHE JUST GO AWAY?!?!?".... BOOM! Personally I have to believe that she's done for the series. Any other thought is just rage-inducing.

Thank you Lost, you deserve your Excellent for the week.

I'm actually glad she blew up like that. It was freaking me out watching her bounce around with all that dynamite in her bag, then slamming water bottles and everything else into it. If she *didn't* blow up after that, I'd have been upset.

So Locke will show up at the emergency room at the exact same time Sun and Jin do. Sawyer and Miles will be there because they have to investigate what happened. Jack will be one of the doctors. Maybe Juliet will be another doctor? And then Desmond shows up. :)

wow another great one this week! So how come Hurley was able to see Isabella, why wasn't she able to move on, like Michael mentioned he wasn't able to move on because of what he did. Same with Christian, Ana Lucia, Charlie and Libby

That's just what Michael seems to believe. Hell, he may even be blocked off from the others for whatever reason; he certainly seemed to believe that he couldn't talk to Libby himself. If the island is some kind of spiritual supermax prison, it stands to reason that everyone who dies on it gets "trapped," too.

Wow. More than any other episode this season this really had some surprises for me. I did not see Illana dying like that.....

At first I didn't understand Desmond running over Locke but I assume it was to recreate the near-death experience he and Charlie had to connect Locke with the Island reality.

Gotta ask... Why did Desmond run over Locke? Let the theories pour in.

Two theories. First, Desmond wants Locke to get surgery from Jack. Second, just like all the other characters are connected, Locke and NotLocke are connected between the universes and killing him will get rid of the Man in Black.

Am I the only one who thought Flash-Sideways-Desmond ran over Flash-Sideways-Locke to try to kill him so he'd be dead?

Whatever Desmond is trying to do, it seems highly motivated by last week's episode to get himself and/or everyone else out of the "real" universe and to the flash-sideways-universe. Is it possible that the Man in Black is also hoping to hitch a ride on this trip and thus must have a body to transfer to? So by Desmond killing Flash-Sideways-Locke, the MiB has nowhere to go.

Alternatively, I like the idea that it's Jacob possessing/inside/motivating Desmond.

Totally Excellent! This show has had me dribbling two weeks in a row now!

I was a big Hurley/Libby fan so I'm glad Libby was back in the sideflash. Them having a picnic on the beach was totally sweet, and I liked how it take take near-drowning for Hurley to remember the island.

Ilana blowing up was just as shocking as when Arzt blew up, and I couldn't believe they went in that direction with her. I'm sure there is something we don't know about her yet that will be revisited.

I liked Michael's appearance, and I totally wasn't expecting an explanation of the whispers in the jungle. It makes sense, and I wonder if the spirits are trapped there in a similar way to what Smokey is too?

Desmond running over Locke was hilarious. That's one extravagent way of getting him to remember! I'd like to think he'll end up at the same hospital with Sun and Jin, and possibly Jack. If Desmond turns up there who knows what fun will ensue? It was a strange ending anyway, a great way to end an episode!

I'm not sure if I like the theory that somehow Des is Jacob, as the side-timeline is pretty absent of his influence, and is probably why everyone is seemingly much better off. I did wonder though if Desmond was trying to kill Locke as some sort of counter to Locke pushing him down the well in the island-timeline.

Perhaps the dead people do it to serve as a warning that something dangerous is approaching, but since nobody can actually talk to the dead people, all they perceive are whispers.

There's a problem with the explanation we were given. When Sawyer first heard the voices back in an earlier season, he heard the voice of the man in Australia that he shot. How and why would that person be trapped on the island and unable to move on? It makes no sense.

Yes, that is the obvious connection that many here seem to have missed. Michael says the whispers are souls who are trapped by the Island. MiB is trapped by the Island. Doesn't that then suggest that MiB is likely trapped in the same way that the other souls are? Of course, MiB isn't like the other whispers. He has some special status that makes him different, which will presumably be revealed by the end of the series.

Two other quick thoughts:

-Pierre Chang looked really good for his age, considering that he has to be seventy something years old by 2004.

-Yet another example of how ridiculous it is for characters in the know not to reveal the answers: At this point, why doesn't Richard just tell everyone what he knows about the Island and MiB? He tries to convince them to help blow up the plane, but he doesn't explain at all what exactly would happen if MiB escapes. He says it would be the "end of everything" or some such thing, but doesn't elaborate. No one presses him for any details, even when he's trying to convince them to follow him.
