You know that probably explains why I'm so  :wtf: about so much of the stuff on this show. I plead guilty to not being a very well rounded person with respect to literature and ancient history and such. So a lot of this just goes right over my head.

I don't think it's really absolutely necessary to know that stuff to enjoy it though. It's just a parallel that I thought of, not something crucial to the understanding of the show. If it were the literal explanation, then I'm sure they would relay some information and not count on their general audience to know who Cerberus is.

Excellent

This is one of the best endings Lost has ever done. I think I almost got some chills watching it. I'm not even going to speculate on where this show is going anymore. I'm just going to watch it play out.

My favorite ending to any Lost episode is that shocker from Season 2 where Michael kills both Ana Lucia and Libby. But this one was pretty darn special. :techman:

Several posts up I explained a non-literary interpretation of the larger story. So, it's definitely not required to enjoy Lost. Although, there was a classic short story that used that same theme (which I'm forgetting the details of) but you certainly don't need to know it to understand that theme of pawns uniting.

Mr Awe

And that is, barring some kind of magical "reset button," there isn't going to be a happy ending for our LOSTies. It appears they're all either going to be dead, or evil, or banished to the island for eternity, or some combination therof. It just doesn't look like it's going to have a "good" outcome for the characters I've come to enjoy over these 6 seasons.
Pretty much everyone from flight 815 is dead, so it's already not good.

An excellent from me, this has been my favourite episode so far this season, the plot threads are coming together and we got rid of that annoying Japanese guy! :)

I must admit that I'm really pissed off with Claire, she promised to kill Kate if she found out that Kate had raised Aaron and she reneged on it! Godsdamnit, every week the writers come up with some improbable excuse to keep that woman alive!

If it's not, then it's pretty far up there on the list. Geez, the body count alone on this one is pretty high. And Darkside Sayid is simultaneously sad, creepy and badass.

My only question is whether Sayid chose his actions, or whether he was manipulated into them.

I'd really, really like to think it was the latter.

And I hope we haven't seen the end of Dogen.

Do you guys agree that this has probably been the darkest episode on Lost so far?
I don't know, lots of people died but they were mostly redshirts, Dogen was the only one we half-way knew. As for Sayid going to the dark side, he was probably already on the dark side after getting infected, it just hadn't manifested onscreen yet.

I'd still say that the darkest episode was the one where Ben had to watch his daughter be executed right after proclaiming that she meant nothing to him.

Well, we sort of learned about the numbers.

The numbers were next to the names of the remaining Candidates in the cave. They were also on the Lighthouse.

BUT...we don't know where they came from or why they were being broadcast.

Oh. Didn't notice that they were the same numbers, but I don't think that really explains anything. Just another iteration of the numbers manifesting somewhere mysterious.

I just want to know who broadcasted them and why. I don't need to know why they keep popping up or their apparently supernatural nature, but the broadcast was the source of a lot of trouble.

^I definitely agree with you there. I want to know why they were being broadcast.

I'd say it's fair to guess that Jacob's list is the ORIGINAL iteration of the numbers, so that has to mean something.

Above average. Wow, talk about intense. Favorite scene: Sayid creeps out Ben. :rommie:

Too bad there will be no happy ending for poor Sayid now. Which makes me wonder: what if there are no happy endings for anyone in the original reality? The finale might be an out and out bloodbath. Even the ones who survive - Hurley, Miles, Jin & Sun for instance - will be scarred forever by their experiences.

The purpose of the sideways reality is that that is where the happy endings will be. Juliet did "save" them all in a way.

I thought it was revealed where they came from when it was shown that the lighthouse's compass degrees corresponded with certain names. At 4 degrees you see Locke's life, at 8 you see Jack's, and so on. I may be wrong on who's number matched up with the particular name, but you know what I mean. Perhaps these numbers are mystical because the people attached to them have a special relationship to the Island...they're uber-candidates, as it were.
