Losing Weight/Staying in Shape

^ Holy cow... I you training for the iron man competition or something... :p

If you have previous exercise experience and are in relatively mobile shape, try P90X... the workouts are absolutely murder, but you'll get f'n ripped.

You can all thank me later :)
I am so intrigued by this program, but I really don't have a space in my home to work out.

I agree. It appeals to the lazy but masochistic part of me - agony, but only for a short while, and rewarding the pain.

My fiance and I live in a 634 sq*ft apartment and there's PLENTY of room. We have to move our coffee tables out of the way, but I get a killer workout.

^ I'll have to remember to ask for that DVD next time I go to my local with the beaded strings for a door... :D

Nope, just obsessed with breaking through a few barriers and being as lean as possible.

I've had serious weight issues in the past - obese at one point, then running it all off to become super skinny, and now am just trying to find a good balance between a bit of muscle and little fat.

The regime is hard work, especially my cardio day, but it's worth it. And I do it for myself, not because someone thinks I'm fat, or because i'm trying to match a media ideal... rather I want to be healthy for as long as possible.

So 1-1.25 hours a day, 6 days a week at the gym

Day 1

Warm Up - 1.5KM Rowing

(All supersets are 5 sets of 8 reps of each exercise, interchanging, with the rest period of 2 minutes coming at the end of every superset regime)

Superset 1 - Incline Dumbbell Bench Press Vs Bent Over Single Arm Rows

Superset 2 - Weighted Pull Ups Vs Weighted Dips

Superset 3 - Flat BarBell Bench Press Vs T-Bar Rows

Superset 4 - Chest Fly's Vs Wide Grip Seated Row

Day 2

Warm Up: 5 Minutes skipping (Harder than it sounds)

(All shoulder supersets are 5 sets of 10 reps of each exercise, with the legs being 8 reps, interchanging with no rest)

Superset 1 - Shoulder Press Vs Single Leg Squats

Superset 2 - Weighted Lateral Arm Raises Vs Seated Leg Curl (on machine)

Superset 3 - Rear Delt Fly's Vs Static Weighted Lunges

Superset 4 - Shoulder Shrugs Vs Leg Press

Day 3

Exercise 1 - Interval Rowing... A set consists of 250m in under 1 minute followed by 30 seconds rest. 10 sets (as I found today, you start at about a 50 second set, and by then end you're screaming to get that tenth set in under a minute).

Exercise 2 - Kettlebell Squat Swings... A set consists of 20 swings holding onto the kettlebell with both hands, followed by ten swings holding with just the right hand, and then ten with just the left, followed by 30 seconds rest. 10 sets

Exercise 3 (a) - Interval running... 2 minutes run at 12kph, 1 min at 17kph. Repeat for 20 minutes.

OR

Exercise 3 (b) - Interval sprinting... A set consists of sprinting 100m, then fast walking 100m. 10 Sets

Exercise 4 - Running up and down a 15ft tall set of stairs with weighted ankle straps 4 times. 30 seconds rest. 5 Sets

And then its 3 supersets of abdominal work, but I don't know the names to them all, but suffice to say... they all make me scream like a little girl

And then I get a rest day... and on day 5 I start all over again. For the next 7 weeks.

Should be fun!

Hugo - fun with a dash of agony

^ Oh my god. With all that, I guess you can drink as much wine as you want. :p

...beware of your joints. :)

I am into intermittent fasting. Since the first of the year I've lost 20lbs. and it's actually supposed to be healthy. I recommend others who want to get in shape do research on it.

But as long as we're on the topic, if one were in the market for reuben croquettes, where might one look? Wait! No! Don't answer that!

Too late!

There's an Irish pub in Minneapolis called The Local that has them. They also claim to be the pub that sells the most Jamison's in the world. ;)

A former co-worker mentioned he and his wife are doing the series. The same company put out "Slim Series" which I like a lot.

Of course the best workout is the one you'll actually do. ;)

Fair enough. I'm quite lengthy, so I need lots of room.

I also don't want to be too noisy for my downstairs neighbors. But it's definitely something I'd like to try out. I go to the gym all the time already for weightlifting, but I am so lazy when it comes to cardio.

And remember, folks, there's no such thing as "spot reduction." Those ab devices/contraptions that they advertise on TV don't necessarily get rid of the fat around your midsection. If anything, they help strengthen ab muscles, but for you to have washboard abs, you've got to either be pretty slim in the first place or lose the layers of fat around your abs, and then do the crunches and whatnot.

Anybody who pays to lose weight is stupid. Eating right and walking are FREE! I lost 25lbs in two weeks this past summer just by walking 3 miles a day during my lunchtime at work and then eating a sensible dinner at night. I'm not giving some guy my hard earned money to lose weight when walking is free.
