Losing the Peace extract in Star Trek Magazine 19

Just when you might actually have received your copy of issue 18 (and again, apologies to all those affected by the distribution problems on that one!) issue 19 of Star Trek Mag is heading towards the newsstands.
Although the movie is the primary focus still, there's quite a bit of TrekLit, with an extract from Bill Leisner's Losing the Peace, introduced by the man himself, as well as a detailed interview with Alan Dean Foster looking at the writing of the novelisation. Plus we catch up with reviews, with Turnaround, Troublesome Minds, Vanguard: Open Secrets, Losing the Peace and the novelisation plus a load of IDW comics (including a few that have yet to hit the stands - thanks to Scott Dunbier and the team at IDW for providing upfront copies). Margaret Clark also tells us about the hardback special edition of the novelisation and there's a preview of Spock Reflections and Nero issue 1.
The rest of the mag is filled with movie goodness, with interviews with Eric Bana, Clifton Collins Jnr, Bob Orci & Alex Kurtzman, DOP Dan Mindel, stunt coordinator Joey Box, costume designer Michael Kaplan - with 10 pages of original designs reproduced at full page size - composer Michael Giacchino, the second part of Chris Doohan's onset diary and much more... Oh, and a load of reaction from TrekLit authors to the new film...
It's another bumper size issue, and subscribers should be getting it ahead of the official newsstand date of 22nd June in the US, early July in the UK.

Early July? Aarrrgh! I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic!

Looking forward to "Losing the Peace", eager for that preview!

I've read it, and I'm very pleased. I award Leisner a Bolian, :bolian:, and look forward to the rest. Is the excerpt in the magazine also chapter one or do we get an additional preview?

No, it's a different one, which I specifically requested after I'd read the book. I guessed that the early chapters would appear on various websites so asked for something which stands alone but is highly relevant (and is also, to my mind, one of the best character sections in Bill's highly readable novel!)

Chapter one of the novel is now available on the Simon & Schuster website.
It is?

Could someone provide a link, because as far as I can tell, the drunk monkeys are still in charge of the website...

And I will treasure my Bolian always. :bolian:

Where is it? I just checked their page for Losing the Peace, and did not see it there anywhere.

I just typed "Losing the Peace Star Trek Excerpt Schuster" into the all-knowing Google, and it was the first link that came up, with a page on your novel and a "read an excerpt" link underneath it. You have to approach the monkeys cautiously, a direct approach will get you nowhere...
:)

I just read the excerpt, and I loved it:techman:. I like how admirals like Akaar, Batiste, Nechayev, Shelby, and Jellico are mentioned. I love when the various series in the universe are tied in for a chapter. And let's not forget Toddman! IIRC, this is the admiral from DS9 that was seen in a yellow admiral's uniform, right?...anyways, I can't wait to get the full novel in July. Thanks for posting the link:)

You forgot Masc and Batanides. Nice to see them too. Hey, as someone who loves as much continuity as is humanely possible, I loved seeing ch'Evram again.

It's clear a lot of thought has gone into this novel, which became very apparent to me during Annika Hansen/Seven's parts of the chapter. Balancing Destiny, Full Circle and A Singular Destiny, Losing the Peace is the final step in knitting the whole post-Borg invasion galaxy together, and Leisner's done a fantastic job if this chapter is anything to go by.

Agreed. What is the chronological order of the post-Destiny stories?

While there are a few overlaps, the chronology so far is basically:

Destiny Trilogy
Losing the Peace
A Singular Destiny
Full Circle
Over a Torrent Sea

Synthesis, Unworthy and Typhon Pact series to come.
