Looks like DS9 will not get Blu Ray

It wouldn't get the sort of attention TNG did, it's not financially viable.

Erm, yes, obviously. That's the whole point. It would need the same level of attention that TNG got to make it worth buying, but they won't give it that attention because they don't believe enough people will buy the finished product. My point was, in the unlikely even that they ever did do it, you wouldn't be picking it up for £80.

As I don't have the DVD's it would only have to be a cleaned up, uncompressed, skilfully 'tweaked' product to sell it to me. At the right price...

That's also never going to happen. The DVDs are out and that's likely all you're getting. They're not going to do some half-arsed "tweak" of the existing DVD set because, again, no-one would buy it. Most people would see it as a money grabbing tactic to try and lure in the Blu-ray hold-outs, and others, like yourself, would be waiting for it to hit "the right price" which may never come.

Whilst I think the chances are very small, a cheap and nasty upscale of a low generation uncompressed copy, sharpened and 'de-noised' digitally to put Voyager and DS9 in the market for HD cable reruns in the future might just result in a Bluray boxset. Just as a commercial aside of preparing the show for resale on TV...

That had occurred to me but I hope not, the DVD versions (no reason to believe they weren't as good as they could make them) are pretty poor quality for DVD, an upscale would be probably the lowest quality Blus on the market.

If that's supposed to be 'How many times, it ain't going to happen !', I agree.

I agree to the point that I've just spent £45 on the complete Voyager box on DVD, and will buy DS9 on DVD when it's a simiar price.

I'm not waiting fot a marginal upgrade to Bluray that will never come...

So apparently there's no billionaire Trek fan who just throws the money at a blu ray conversion of his favorite shows just because he can.

Why can't we crowdfund this sucker? If Super Troopers can get 4 mill, surely there are enough of us idiots with more money than sense to get this off the ground.

2 mill should be easy. A fool and his money are soon parted especially when Star Trek is involved :D

Why can't we crowdfund this sucker?

Because real-Hollywood does not work that way?

This. Plus, two million is a drop in the bucket from everything I've seen. It cost nine million dollars to bring TNG into the HD world, I've seen twenty million dollars talked about as the price to upgrade DS9.

Then we need a rich benefactor.

Or a sugar daddy.

Or a kidnapping.

I'm wondering if the entire Star Trek franchise (DVD, bluray, re-runs, books, merchandise, etc...) is profitable for CBS. Could they be investing 20 million for DS9 and still make a profit as a whole, or is Star Trek so burned out that they don't gain any money from it?

I suspect they would still profit, but the issue is how long would it take to recoup the cost. They probably don't want to invest in something that wouldn't be in profit until quite some time after release.

Yes, it's a choice how to invest that money. Investing that $20M in another Reboot movie seems a sure bet to make more money than investing in HD DS9, probably a lot more.

Do we have any proof that apart from the dozen or so of us still coming in this thread that anyone would actually buy it?

Us all being really really interested doesn't butter many parsnips, as they say.

So, it probably won't happen.

I'm still hoping for first contact with aliens (nice ones obviously) in my lifetime though, so here is to false hope! :)
