Yeah, I've been playing GT3, and it didn't feel like how I remembered it from back when my brother had a PS2. It was then I realized that we played GT4, which is definitely superior.
GT3 was my first PS2 game (got the console bundle) and it was amazing at the time, GT4 was just better in almost every way.
I'd say GT3 to GT4 was the biggest leap in quality from one mainline game to the next in the franchise so far. (To be fair, some people might argue that it was GT to GT2, but I didn't care as much about GT2.)
The sad thing about it all is that these days, I prefer Forza Motorsport as a franchise :/

GT4 is on my list, though it will have to be a while before I get it. I traded a bunch of my games, and here's what I've got coming in the mail over the next two weeks:

I found Okami, but the guy wanted way too many coins (the currency used on the site) for it. Katamari Damacy is on Amazon for $13 (including shipping), so it's a while off as well. Oh, and yes, I realize there are a few titles in there that would qualify as violent, but I don't dislike such games entirely, but I like to keep their number to a bare minimum. Plus, GTA III is just awesome.
The best part about all of this? It didn't cost me a single penny!

The SSX games are fantastic. I don't even like snowboarding, but I have a hard time putting them down.

I've loved snowboarding games ever since I first played Cool Boarders back in the PSX days.
Also, I have to make some changes to the list. Unfortunately, several of the games I requested are no longer available, so I had to make a few alterations. Instead of Simpsons Road Rage, I ended up getting Fantavision, which looks like a lot of fun. I also added Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, and the Namco Museum to the list (they added up to the same price as the Simpsons Road Rage disc). So I still win!
NFSU2 is a very, very good illegal streetracing game. Being able to freely roam around in an open-world city was a pretty cool, unusual thing for a NFS game in 2004.
Also, it has a bitching soundtrack.
Eh. Personally, I only ever thought Hot Pursuit 2 was the only PS2 N4S game worth owning. Underground is okay, I guess.

Once I got my PS2, I made it my mission to get NFSU 2, because way back when the PS2 was still the big thing, my best friend got a copy of it, and we played it to death. It's still one of my favorite games.
Hot Pursuit 2 is a great game, too! Both games have smooth, lush visuals, and fun gameplay.
I should add that I never got the infamous NFS fatigue back when they released a ton of NFS titles inspired by The Fast and the Furious. (Reminiscent of the way Activision milked the plastic instrument hype with Guitar Hero.)
As I only played a couple of them, I never got fed up with the setting and style that a lot of NFS-faithfuls got tired of after a couple of years.

Eh, I can't say the same. NFSU 2 was my favorite of the series, and Carbon was cool, but other than those, it did wear me out quickly. That and I didn't like the direction some of the games took. My least favorite is probably Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I played it for a few weeks but got burned out on it rather quickly.
I'm not big on non-sim racing games in general, so when I dip my toe in the NFS franchise from time to time, it's always a good time. From what I've seen in terms of critical reception, I've seem to have skipped the worst clunkers though.
Edit: Oh, and I forgot to say, Kingdom Hearts is another great get in your list. It has a lot of charme and the Final Fantasy/Disney crossover is a phantastic fit.

I get tired of racing sims unless they offer something really unique. One of the reasons I grabbed HSX Hypersonic Extreme is because it was floaty shippy car dealies, and that looked interesting. I looked at a preview on Youtube (and they have video of EVERY game there, I swear), and it looked fun and exciting, and that was enough for me to snag it.
I'm trying to offload Ford Racing 3 and Nascar 08 on somebody on the site over there. You want a dull as dishwater games? Those are it, IMO. The Nascar games stopped being fun when EA took over. When it was Papyrus, Nascar racing was FUN. Now it's just bland.
Thanks! It was a "what the hell, why not?" purchase. I wanted something that looked different, and I saw the title and it fit the bill. To be honest, I'm itching to try out Fantavision. I've known about it since the PS2 came out (it was one of our featured launch titles when I worked in Sears Electronics). Now I'll own it. It looks colorful, the music sounds upbeat, and it seems like it's some kind of puzzle or strategy, and those hit all of the right notes. I hope it's good.

I know you said colorful happy non-violent games, but I would recommend Shadow of the Colossus. Bloody brilliant piece of art. It's considered to be the Citizen Kane of games, or in Trekkie lingo; it's the Wrath of Khan for Video games.
Also I'm a big fan of Katamari Damacy, that might be more up your alley.

Agreed with CJohnson, Shadow of the Collosus is a beautiful game. And pretty fun too. I have it on PS2, and the hi-def remaster they did for PS3.

I couldn't quite get into Ico the way I did Shadow of the Collosus, but I hear ya....yes, it is a pretty emotional game.
