In the past we have had issues with trolls creating accounts solely for the purpose of causing problems, including using offensive avatars. So, we enforce a 100 post minimum before you can select an avatar. Seems like a pretty good precaution to me.

A question: do you also check all new avatars

I'm fairly sure they don't, that'd be a lot of work with all the av changing that happens here everyday. ;)

I don't believe we check every single one, but normally if there is an issue, another poster or at least one of the mods will catch it and bring it to the attention of the administrators.

Speedis is a good free one. You don't even have to sign up, but they're not as reliable as people would want to think.

^How do you do that?

Well, just guessing, I bet you would save the file to the Files area, and then you would just have to put in the URL of the location of your av so that TBBS can use it.

Easy enough, eh?

Most popular free web providers like Geocities, Tripod, Lycos, Bravenet, Freeservers, and Boomspeed among others won't let you remotely link to images - in other words, they won't let an image from their web space show up on some other web page that isn't on their web space: like on our BBS as your avatar. Don't even bother trying to get your avatar hosted there.

Not all is lost though, you can still find places to host your BBS avatar with a minimum of fuss.

Your ISP Most ISP accounts come with an allocation of free web space. This is by far the best place to host your images. Check the details of your agreement with them, or their home page for details of how to use that.

Actually geocities do.

Oh right, like your av I suppose? If you can see it it's only because it's in your cash, the rest of us are looking at a red X. ;)

No they don't - I have a site there and unless you pay, no image linking for you.

Mine isnt working...as you can see
<<
Is it too big, does tripod not allow me to? Whats the deal?

^ Tripod does not allow hotlinking, i.e. linking to a picture hosted at their servers. You could ask some other poster to host your avatar. You could ask your friends from here or someone listed here.

For some reason, Digikitten now marks my avatar as Forbidden.

Therefore, AutoAdmin through a snit and removed it.

Anyone know whether this is temporary or permanent? Also, got suggestions for another host?

Digikitten posted this on their site the other day:

Important Announcement for Members

Please be advised that Digikitten Universe no longer hosts signatures and avatars for non participating members. If you are an active member of Digikitten and wish to participate in the many Photoshop Tennis and other graphics games you can be given ample space. Please contact a admin or supermod if you are a new member and would like to join in the games. If you would just like to use Digikitten for uploader access and not be an active member you may purchase uploader space that comes with a free 2 MB webmail for $5.00 USD - You may visit ElectricKitten.com for more details.

So it's pay or play now, if you want Av hosting there. :(

I'd be willing to host a few Avs on my site. :)

edited 'cuz digikitten's spelling errors bugged me. :D

^^^
This is midly frustrating... :( I don't have any web space of my own, so bye bye Avatar. Unless of course someone's very generous offer is still open (or someone knows another service like Digikitten)? It seems a little useless to find some webspace just to host one Avatar...
