Locutus of Bored has Passed Away

I'm so sorry to read this. My sincere condolences.

Others have mentioned his wit, intelligence, and empathy, which are certainly all true.

I'd like to give credit to his patience. I don't know about the last 10 years-ish (about the time I've been away) but back in the day, Misc used to be challenging to moderate. It was very busy, with a very wide range of characters, and correspondingly varying agenda in terms of how posters wanted to interact with others. So flashpoints were frequent and sometimes very difficult to arbitrate.

Locutus had the rare ability to be decisive but at the same time remarkably patient. It may not always have been obvious to posters on the receiving ends of his incisive moderating style, but he was always able to take a step back and separate his moderating opinion from his day-to-day interacting. Doing that for many years takes more patience than many realise and a great deal of good judgement too.

On a personal note, I was cleaning out some old bookmarks and on a whim clicked the TrekBBS one. While shocked to read this news, I feel most fortunate to have the opportunity to pay my respects. Locutus of Bored was one the good guys. May he rest in peace.

*GASP*

Good to see you. Wish it was under better circumstances. Hope life, cufflinks and dress shoes have been treating you well.

One last terrible meme for you

I really don't know what to say that could articulate anything remotely fitting, except to say that it's a sad day. Rest in Peace.
