IIRC Guinan said "If you leave, you can go anywhere, any time." (not just places the Nexus had been). Picard's family meant so much to him, but he didn't think for a second to go back days earlier and save them, then get Soran. Picard, you are a fool for not thinking outside the box. Or actually, it was the writers who didn't realize the potential of the Nexus.
