I cried during the final scene. Some people find the last scene of this episode corny, but I think it is wonderful.
I didn't cry but I definitely felt sad for the Doctor. To be activated and find out everyone you cared about is gone

I wonder if the Federation has expanded that far out into the Delta Quadrant by the time this episode takes place. Obviously the planet in it isn't a member, but perhaps UFP space isn't that far away...in which case the Doctor would not, technically, have far to go in order to get home (and the technology of 700+ years in the future would probably be able to send him to Earth immediately).
The final scene in the museum where we learn that the doctor has left the planet to go on a quest to find out what happened to Voyager?
Gosh, for me this was not only a moving episode about the Backup EMH left behind, it was also thought provoking on how motives and event can be misinterpreted. Naturally reconstructing facts about history will, that was explored well in the story. And it also led me to thinking how often this happens in everyday living; giving motive to words or actions I didn't witness. Giving motive to a film production I wasn't part of. Making conclusions when I don't have all the facts.
This was a meaningful episode to me on several levels; the story itself of the backup EMH, the story of the two histories played out with the people in this episode, and my own analogies applicable to Real Life, the enjoyment I had watching this episode, and the poignancy of a lost soul doing good and then setting out on his own course for a home his 'family' on the Journey has made long ago.

It makes you wonder though why they never used the backup, especially at times when it would have been really useful like when they sent the original to the alpha quadrant (instead of trying to make one from scratch which seems ridiculous) or that time when he was stolen.
Not really, it was something they came up with for this episode, despite some nine episodes earlier sending the EMH to the AQ was a risk as they had no back-up. And even if we are generous and say they managed to build one inbetween, if they can build one they can build another. Don't get me wrong it was one of VOY better episodes despite the massive plot-hole.
I really like this episode- the portrayal of selective memory with the cartoonish Voyager crew is wonderful. The 'Warship Voyager' was a kick ass variant that I wish we saw more of- an attack wing of those in the Dominion War would have been spectacular.
I did love how they ended it with the Doctor searching- the plot hole was big but I can forgive it this time.

I like the demon planet episode better.
Expectations is a double edged sword, if you watch something that gets rave reviews you go in with high expectations so there is a high chance you'll be dissapointed. The opposite is true as well if you go into something after hearing negative reviews you are more likely to be plesently surprised.
Living Witness is a good episode but I've never considered it one of the series best. The whole message strikes me as just a little bit on the nose.
