Surely Mr Spock made the sign with his thumb out ( 2 finger 2 fingers 1 thumb ) ??? Today i watched an old episode of NCIS where DiNozzo ( the series film expert) made the sign with his thumb in ( 2 fingers 3 fingers(or2+thumb) I hope im not wrong in thumb out otherwise im going to watch Land Before Time the whole series of films over and over forever and never watch Trek again

With the thumb out, it's Live Long and Prosper.
With the thumb in, it's Nanu Nanu!

:D

And sideways. With arm outstretched parallel to the ground.

Thumb out, hand raised like a high 5 - Vulcan Salute

Thumb in, hand extended like a handshake - Orkan Salute.

I thought thumb out meant live long and prosper, while thumb in meant live long but don't prosper. It's a curse of life-long poverty. :D

I'm drawing a blank:

I know Nimoy came up with the Salute, but what about the expression "Live Long and Prosper" itself? Was that his too?

Gaaahhhhh.....curse my inattentiveness and senility. :D

With the thumb in, it's speaking with an accent.
That, or it's when two of the fingers accidentally flex when trying to split them. :)

If you do it in front of a bright light against a wall, it is a a Shark...or something.

I loved "The Land Before Time". My kids wanted to know what was "...wrong with Daddy's eyes?"
<sniffle, Poor Littlefoot, yep yep yep!>

In an alternate universe, a Lb4TBBS user threatens to quit Lb4T and watch Trek for all eternity if they find out that treestars don't follow a palmate arrangement.

I noticed that in the episode SAVAGE CURTAIN, Surak - the father of all that Vulcans hold near & dear - was a switch-hitter, offering up the Vulcan Salute both ways. So, this confusion seems to have cropped up from the very beginning ...
