News Live-Action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ tv series in the works

I don't think I've even heard of that one

Katee Sackoff vehicle. I didn't make it 20 minutes into the opening episode. Just plain bad. But its continued existence doesn't harm me because I simply found something else to watch.

Ooohhhh! Yeah I saw the trailers for that one and I could smell the stink coming off of it.

Finally finished it, after three weeks. To be honest I quit for over a week when I hit the Vicious/Julia flashback episode. I hated all their scenes and would have rather watched literally anything else than a whole episode of them. Didn't like the big Julia twist much at all and the guy playing Vicious kept making that one face over and over. The rest of the show was...okay? I guess? It didn't really improve as it went on, though it was nice to have Faye in more episodes after being absent for the second and third. She was probably my favourite of the three, but the other two were good as well. It just didn't hold my attention. I kept watching other stuff instead. If it had got a second season I would have watched it...but very slowly once again.

The Ed scene was really rough. There's a reason why actors don't usually try to act like anime characters in live action.

Expensive show doesn’t hit the numbers you want and is not a critical darling and that’s that.

Second season is a slight improvement on the first, and I think it's done now there won't be more.

Damn. I liked the show, for the most part. The core cast was terrific. And there were threads I was hoping to see resolved, like the Cherious Medical backstory given to Ein. Plus I would've been curious to see how they'd tackle adapting stories like "Heavy Metal Queen" or "Toys in the Attic."

Well, I hope at least the actors bounce back and get other work. I've felt for a long time that John Cho deserved to be a leading man, but he can't seem to get a starring role in anything that lasts. (The only previous series lead role he had that I know of was in a terrible 2014 sitcom called Selfie with Karen Gillan. They both deserved much better.)

I found the show mediocre, so I am unsurprised. I would not have watched a second series if it had continued with the Julia-Vicious show, because I found them insufferable. The overlong banter scenes grated, and the lack of emphasis on the bounty hunting rather wasted the premise. (Heck, we got an episode where Faye and Spike sat around talking about bounties. They could just as easily had this conversation as they were chasing bounties. Yes, that’s cheaper, but it’s not so interesting.)

Cho has been keeping busy. He bounces back and forth between movies and TV. He starred in the second season of the surprisingly good Fox version of The Exorcist after that.

The main cast are all busy/rich enough. It's always the blue collar workers who are most hurt by cancellations.

Boy, it's always nice to see someone celebrating a whole group of people losing their jobs.
And I actually was enjoying the show, and am disappointed we won't be getting more. Yeah, there were areas for improvement, but nothing that couldn't have been fixed if the show got more episodes. It's a shame it won't get that chance.
Because it was an insult to everyone who worked on the original series. (And no, just to be safe, I couldn't care less what clothes characters do or do not wear.)
How was it an insult, I thought it stuck pretty close to it. For me to think of something as an insult to the original, it would have go so completely against what it did, that it damages the whole franchise's reputation, and I really don't see that here. It just wasn't as good as the anime, that's all.

You know what? I'm very tempted to rewatch the season with the Japanese dub track by the original actors. It'd be interesting to see how that changes things. As I've mentioned before, I feel the Japanese and English dub casts play most of the characters rather differently, with only Ed seeming the same in both versions. And the live-action actors brought their own distinct interpretations too. So it might be kind of different to watch the live-action show with the anime voices.

Chasing bounties is the perfect story engine. What a shame the show got into the weeds with the Julia/Vicious/Spike arc.

Damn. What a shame. I loved the cast and the chemistry they had together. Since we haven't really had anything Cowboy Bebop related in the past 20 years I was hoping this would kick start a new life for it. Pity to leave it on a cliffhanger too. I can understand it being too expensive because it definitely looked like that. But all those lovely sets they made for season 1 are all going bye bye now. I guess 74 million views is not enough.

Also was not a fan of what they did with Gren. C'est la vie.

Agree. Gren's story in the anime was great. But in the live-action, they're relegated to a background character. Just window dressing. Although, in fantastic outfits. I also like the nonbinary actor who played them.

I was curious to see how Ed was going to hold up in longer sittings but that's a moot point now.

I'm not too surprised or heart-broken as it was definitely flawed in my mind but not so much that I wouldn't have tuned in for another round had the opportunity come.

I know this is just a pipe dream but you could probably make an entertaining buddy movie caper using the same cast, they had a nice chemistry.
