News Live-Action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ tv series in the works

I wonder if this is a reaction to the furor over Scarlett being cast in GitS. I mean, I always figure Bebop was originally made with a western audience in mind, and thus the characters were intentionally western people, I mean, Spike Spiegle? Maybe they went with Asian actors for Spike and Faye to avoid accusations of whitewashing.
Well, no matter. I'm a John Cho fan, so I'll be watching.

The actress playing Faye does not seem to fit at all regardless of ethnicity. I love John Cho, but neither do I see him as a bad ass like Spike.

I wonder how Attack on Titan's hollywood adaption will be. You have ONE main asian character while the rest are ethnically germanic/european and race plays an important part of the plot.

Will "whitewashing" be cried if multiple characters are not Asian actors?

^ Well, we've seen how the Japanese handled the casting of the live action version of Attack on Titan.

Cho doesn't really seem much like *Spike* to me, at least from the performances I've seen. Even in his 50s I think Keanu Reeves comes about the closest that I can think of offhand.

Peyton Elizabeth Lee has a look that might work for Edward (as much as anyone could...) though I don't know if being a Disney Channel star that she'd be allowed to do a Netflix show.

Isn't Faye's ethnicity ambiguous in the show anyway, since her origins are mysterious? And it strikes me as a multicultural future where ethnic populations have blended together on the frontier anyway, which is why a character modeled on Yūsaku Matsuda can have a name like "Spike Spiegel."

He's got a very wide range as an actor. I hardly recognized him in the Total Recall remake. I'm sure he can pull it off.

Still, I do wonder why they didn't pick an actor closer to Spike's age. It sort of underlines how few well-known Asian actors there are in the US, even now.

Oh, I think Cho can handle badass okay.

Agreed on the multicultural future aspect.

Spike isn't an Asian character, so there was no need to cast an Asian actor in the role other than that the creators wanted to.

Who says Spike isn't Asian? As I just posted earlier today, his character design was modeled directly on Japanese actor Yūsaku Matsuda. Just because he has a Western name doesn't mean he's ethnically Western.

Netflix has revealed the last member of the Bebop crew in their video announcing the start of production.

Not that I know of, I just forgot about Ed. I was watching it a while back and I had only just gotten to Ed's introduction when I took a break to work on other stuff. So I completely forgot about her when I made my other post.
Ed didn't show up until later in the anime, so maybe they'll do the same thing here and she just wasn't in the episode they were reading through here.

Very true. Forgot about that. I am very happy we have Ein confirmed. The music they played was also Bebopian.

For Ed it doesn't help that the Dai Sato penned episodes that featured Ed were some of the weakest in the original show.
