listen to carl sagan

That was awesome, and yet chilling as TJ said. The music and voice over by Carl Sagan is what sales the video. I love the way he says "The Pale Blue Dot" at the end. It sends chills down my spine. No one could have said more eloquently than him.

God, I miss Carl Sagan. :(

Me, too. No one made science and space more accessible to a wider audience than he did.

There was a decided rise in NASA-bashing following in the years right after Sagan's death (not that the two were related). Wish he had been here to keep acting as an unwitting ambassador between space exploration and the public at large.

What is funny is that even though I disagree with much of Sagan's views on biology and evolution, I still find the man to be the single-greatest popular scientist of all times.

It seems, these days, that Neil Tyson DeGrasse comes the closest to replicating Sagan... and he doesn't even come close.

Anyone who has ever watched the series "Cosmos", regardless of their views, has to find the universe and all that is in it, utterly mesmerizing. I can, at moments, simply close my eyes and remember entire sequences from the series.

Like J. Allen, I too miss Carl Sagan.

Minor correction, FatherRob, it's Neil deGrasse Tyson.

We're members of the American Museum of Natural History, and he's the director of the AMNH's Hayden Planetarium. :)

Dr. Tyson is an interesting guy. I agree that he's brought a lot of the same energy to the subject that Sagan did, but he's got a lot more of a to-the-point style to how he does things than Sagan did, IMO.

So do I. I got the Cosmos DVD set last week and I was watching his "Update" cosmos segments and I felt my heart drop when he was talking about watching the progress of "Galileo" on Mars.

I wish he could see Hubble Ultra Deep Field image. Only his words are appropriate enough to describe the beauty of our universe.

I love Carl Sagan. He had a gift for putting things into perspective and it was his Cosmos series that hooked me on science and made look at the stars with wonder lust. :)
