List of 2008 & 2009 Trek books

I know there was an issue a few years ago with Trek ebooks not having that option enabled in certain formats. I don't know why that would be the case, and it may have been a simple case of default setting. I haven't purchased an ebook recently. For those who have/do, is this feature available?
I bought the first Eugenics Wars book that way some years ago, and the text was locked. I bought the books and cut them up.

I just brought this up to explain up there ^^ why someone with dyslexia would be looking for a book list. Not meaning to start anything, sorry.

^ Nope, it's all good. We wuz just tryin' to help. :)

Thanks, guys; I do a variety of things to read. I've been on the federal talking book program for a couple decades; I have a husband who is a software developer and can write programs I can't buy; I digitize stuff from other formats, etc.

My wife has mild dyslexia and what works for her is green text. I changed her text color on her computer to be green and she sees it a lot better. Sometimes it can also be red or some other color that might help other then black or white. But give green text a try and see how you get on with that.

^ ^ Could you please direct me to it? I'd appreciate it.

P.S. If you're wondering how I read books with dyslexia: I cut them apart, scan them, use text-to-speech software and listen to them on iPod.
Amazon's new Kindle 2 has built-in text-to-speech functionality. So if you still want your books read to you, you can purchase a Kindle 2 and eBooks and have them read to you without having to do any cutting/scanning/converting.

Yes, thank you; it was a coincidence they announced the new Kindle like the day after I posted here. If I didn't already have a house full of books I'd already bought, I might consider it. (The federal talking-book program is free; they have tens of thousands of titles -- some Trek books, too.)

My type of dyslexia is not like anybody else's I've ever heard of; I get migraines from reading and watching video. I have to limit my video time, too. My vision itself has always been good. In my prime I had 13/20 in one eye and 18/20 in the other.

Edit 2/13: I feel guilty essentially high jacking this thread, and I am sorry. I'd just like to elaborate one more little bit. You are all very sweet to bring things up; thank you!

The system I use goes pretty fast; I scan two pages at a time, and it takes seconds. And then I have all the text in files to keep. I convert the whole batch at once to MP-3 (it works while I'm away) and store them in iTunes permanently. It's really a great resource, in fact. I'd recommend it to anybody.

My husband is a software developer, and he found state-of-the-art hardware and software for me starting like 10-12 years ago. (In fact, he wound up doing part of his graduate work on voice interface.) Apple has the best stuff!

I didn't mention this earlier, but the voice they use on the Kindle isn't as nice as the Mac ones I use. And the Kindle is large, whereas I have a bunch of iPod shuffles that are tiny; and I can clip one on and go around listening to books while I do chores or go for a walk or whatever. I do the same with the daily news, getting newspaper text from online. I listen to more books and periodicals now than before I developed the eye problem.

Not so bad. I do love reading. Thanks!

Jeri, I have to tell you, it's a pure pleasure to hear about somebody who refuses to be done in by this kind of disadvantage. My wife is having diabetes-related problems with her vision at the moment, and is very worried that the day may come that she won"t be able to enjoy reading any more - and I have to say, you're an inspiration that this kind of thing need not defeat one. Thank you.

Bobatiel, thanks. :o :)

ClayinCA, believe me, a husband like mine (and hers ) is a big positive factor. I wish you guys the best; she will find more books than she can ever read through the federal talking book program.

They are a lifesafer. They have been producing them for decades and probably have 100,000 titles by now, with state libraries included. (States also have their cooperating libraries and produce titles and magazines).

She might already qualify; she just needs a doctor to vouch for her condition on the application. Patrons don't need to be blind to be on the program -- just have some medical condition that prevents them reading normally. In fact, some patrons have good eyesight, but are on the program because they have a disability where they can't hold a book.

The NLS (National Library Service), as it is referred to, is in the middle of changing to a digital format after having cassettes for several decades. I still get the cassettes and just digitize them for iPod nowadays.

Ask at your local library for an application; local libraries sometimes have the specialized format players and some cassette books. Normally, the service functions through the mail. Patrons receive the service through their state libraries.

^ I'd call that a good year! Since I usually stick to the DS9R... :p

I guess thats not true lately, and there were a few years where a bunch of DS9PF came out... but still.

I got bored of the DS9R with the last couple of books, they read like filler mainly - plus it's mirror universe stuff which I hate.

TNG-R - Just got no interest after destiny.

VOY-R - No interest to start with.

ENT - really really no interest.

That leaves me with TOS books...
