"Life on Mars" has been canceled.

Well, looked forward to Jericho-canceled. Looked forward to Journeyman-canceled. Now this. I'll let you people know what I'm watching so you don't get invested in a good show that goes "Bye-bye!" quickly.

Although I must admit it was nice this time actually being able to understand what some of the characters were saying. Those thick, thick cockney accents of Ray and Chris could be difficult to understand for a simple American farm kid who's never been outside the country. They also used alot of English slang I was unfamiliar with. "WTF is a poof?" "Oh right, because they call cigarettes fags."

^Cockney? In Manchester? Get real, will you, please?
Thanks God that monstrosity is finally over! Long live John Simm and Philip Glenister!

Perhaps you could cease watching television until after a show's run? :rommie:

Jason O'Mara can't catch a break. He joins The Agency, they cancel it. In Justice was a midseason replacement on the weekend with no hope of succeeding. His character dies in the second episode of Band of Brothers.

He made it through Resident Evil: Extinction without being killed (advantage of playing Fan Favorite Wesker).

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!!!:scream: :scream::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

That is exactly the one and only reason I didn't even bother watching this show. I have no idea if it was good or bad but I KNEW it would get axed after one measly little season. I'm surprised it didn't get axed half way thru the 1st season.

I'm soooo happy ABC didn't get me again like all the major networks do. I would have watched it had it gotten at least 3 seasons. Now I don't have to waste my time on something that has no ending!!! :alienblush:

Guess this kind of kills all hope for a US Ashes to Ashes...

If there was one good thing about this, it's that. ATA is a good show, but the main character is insufferable.

I'm glad they get to finish it. That's really decent of them. It was a decent show. Not nearly as good as the original. But good. Harvey Keitel is a great actor, but his type of tough guy is not the type of tough guy Gene Hunt should be. He's very laid back and casual. Phil Glenister is over the top, snarky, and charismatic. Keitel was miscast. They needed someone with more UMPH. Someone who'd really shake it up with Sam, not let that job go to his underlings. I did like Jason O'Mara though.

It was also watered down from the original. The BBC one was as raw, gritty, and as un-PC as you can get. Think The Wire meets Quantum Leap. So it just didn't feel as honest as the original.
I don't think Keitel was miscast, because the depiction of Gene in the US version was different from that in the original - now, if Keitel had been playing the same, larger than life character that Glenister did, I'd agree with you, but I don't think the intent in this new version was for Gene to be that kind of character.

Glad they're getting to wrap things up - I'll be interested to see what kind of wrap-up this version gets, and how it'll differ from the original.

I really, really didn't like Keitel at first because I thought he was failing miserably at replicating Glenister's Gene Hunt, but once I realized Keitel was playing him as a different character, a wise move, I warmed up to him.

I caught the pilot and one other episode and I just didn't warm to this. It has kind of a nice little premise but it seemed more interested in being a cop show than playing with that.

Sorry to hear it's getting axed for those who latched onto it, though.

I haven't watched a single episode of this or the original (damn you, region one), but...doesn't the article linked up top indicate that there will be an ending to the series in the final episode(s)?

That would be nice.

Yeah, I appreciate Keitel's take on the character simply because it's almost quintessential 70s NYC, and even then the writers managed to get through expectations and stereotypes that come to mind. To me, that means different city leads to different character.

I like this show, I think it speaks well of its British source of material, so I'm sad to see it go.

Doesn't really bother me, as I lost interest in the American Version after a few episodes. The Original version is one of the best shows of the last few years.

Here's a crazy idea: watch the British version. :eek:

Sounds insane, I know, but it's really easy to do. They even speak the same language and everything!

Is it out on DVD yet? Is Life on Mars even out on DVD yet? Because I don't see it anywhere.

I understand the sentiment, of course, but damn...they could make it easier for us to watch the damned thing.

I'd already canceled it before Christmas from my own tv schedule. The British version was just a lot better. I liked most of the people in the US version, but it just wasn't clicking like the original did.

I know. I actually find that offensive. "Fookin yanks" as some Madchester folk would say

Please don't take offense. I'm obviously unfamiliar with the different types of dialects and accents used in your country, as I've never been there.
