LIBYAN REBELS those guys and gals are all right

if any one is keeping up with the fighting in libiya . a us fighter was shot down or it might have crashed not realy sure on that part . But he landed in rebel territory and found out he was in friendly hands . our goverment can't figure these guy's out . I am pulling for the rebels .

that is sopposed to say gals in any one can fix the title I would appreciate it .

In a nice black and white world, it could be a simplistic as that. However, given the convolutions, shades of grey in the real world, particularly that region, I would not hold out much hope for that type of naive view.

Mr Awe

The US is not at war with Libya. We're merely enforcing a Security Council resolution, and it's not like US ground troops are gonna go in.
There were likely US ground troops in the form of US Army special forces, also forward air controllers inside of Libya prior to the first cruise missile and fighter/bomber attacks.

The Korean War was a case of the US merely enforcing a Security Council resolution too. Resolution 84.

:)

Side note. I like your new avatar better.
CNN said the same thing about Syria, so its more than likely the truth. It wouldn't also surprise me to find out that there is special forces in all hot beds within the middle East.

...After were done in lyibia I think we go after cuba and N. korera...

Big problem - no oil reserves to speak of.
The Sudan has lots of oil, and a repressive government that permits the murder of some members of it population, and it technically relegalized slavery a few years back.

Perhap we should attack them next for their oil ... I mean, for the children.

:)

Wait, you're only at war with someone when you send ground troops? And it's no war when you enforce a UN resolution? This is splitting hairs silliness. It's war, plain and simple.

Legally, no it's not. A declaration of war has not been declared. I know it's splitting hairs, but when it comes to legal matters, they're important distinctions.

So your saying that the United States and the European nations are engaged in a illegal war? That's still war, multiple sovereign nations are utilizing external military force against the sovereign nation of Libya in order to effect internal political change ... that's war, Certainly an act of war any way you look at it.

It's true that (unlike his immediate Presidential predecessor) President Obama made no effort to obtain Congressional approval for his intended military actions.

:)

To our shame, the United States has not declared war since World War II. IMAO, it's the job of Congress to assert that power, but as a body they've been falling down on that job for over sixty years now.

Yeah but did you know this. What is Lyiba rich in.(hint: alot like Iraq)
What does syria have, nothing we want, yet their citizens are being slaughtered as well, where is the great u.s NO-WHERE.

IMO: The War Powers Resolution is just a codification of Congress not wanting to bear any responsibility. And, it's unconstitutional, but don't let that stop us.

The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period. So, there you have it.

Not actually the truth. Though since there is no ground troops, there is no need to get congressional approval. Not only that, but its mostly the navy that is handling the situation, and if you see their commercial, they claim themselves the protector of the world basically.
Really sure Bush got congressional Approval before sending troops?

I'm quite familiar with the War Powers Resolution, and have been since I turned 18, which was over 25 years ago. I think it's unconstitutional.

Their "commercial"? WTH.

What will all those who think "no ground troops" means something say when the ground troops get sent in?

Thats the thing Obama wont send ground troops. Don't say that before you listen to his speech he made today. He's not Bush, he'll consider American's first.
If I knew how to Post a youtube video I could show you the new Navy commerical.

Of course if you had an atheist or non-believer, we would hardly ever talk war, but thats for a different discussion and or own thread.

I don't want to see their commercial, thanks.

"consider America first" uh huh. How are the pilots any less troops? They can be shot down, yes? They kill people, yes?

Religion is just a useful duckblind for power, the need for power exists with or without deities.

Star the thread though, sounds fun.

Yes, pilots can kill someone. You have a point, Obama shouldn't have acted so fast without atleast explaining in detail what his plan was. The only problem is that if he had waited, more civilians would have been killed. Yes, the UN has their own planes, but since we get our noses into everything it would make us look bad.

I couldn't start another thread concerning religious views, people may think I go out of my way to bash religious poeple, when for the most point I don't mind them, I have more friends who are than who aren't.

I agree.

You can say that about many many areas in Africa, the middle east..

Make us look bad not to keep getting our noses into everything?

Oh well if it interests you you can always start in in TNZ.
