Let's talk about the elephant in the room, this series violates Roddenberry's vision big time

I think it's rather dishonest to claim all that Uhura ever did in TOS was say "hailing frequencies open, sir". She had as much to do on the show as Chekov and Sulu, while Scotty has always been the intermediate between the day players and the trinity.

The very first scene we get set on the Enterprise in "The Man Trap" is Uhura teasing Spock on the bridge, and that's not the end of seeing her have fun little side scene character interactions that have little to do with the main plot.

Could she have been developed more? Yes, which is something you can say of the other supporting characters. Is her portrayal perfect? No, like every female character she's portrayed through the lens of 60s sex politics, but she at least shows herself to be more reliable on the spot than a lot of the other female characters like Rand and any throwaway yeoman of the week.

Now, enough of the Uhura disparaging.

Fully agreed. I'm pretty sure I read "Reign In Hell" in one sitting. Great stuff, all three books.

Thanks, GhoulEddie and V'Gr. I'm proud of those books and glad you enjoyed them.

Honestly, of all my Trek books, those are the ones people really seem to remember, even after all these years. I'm kinda resigned to the fact that, if I ever I get hit by an asteroid, my obituary will begin with "Greg Cox, best known for his Eugenics Wars novels . . . " :)

Yes, let's move on to other character disparaging...;)

Let's disparage Riker for being a bigger slut than Kirk.

I'd rather mock him for his "enlightened" sensibilities when he realizes that Troi is going to get married. Makes perfect sense to be upset.

Mocking the characters from the first season is like shooting fish in barrel. Especially Worf, my favorite.
