"Let's Punch It"

teacherbrock

Lieutenant

Anyone else just love this line?

I'll be honest here I was never a Pike fan, never liked "the cage". However this Pike kicks ass, in fact; the more i watch the movie the more I see him as the definitive Captain, even moreso than Kirk-prime.

I thought it was a little odd or out of place...wasn't that line made famous from that car commercial where the old woman says "punch it Margaret"....that's what i think if when I hear that line....somebody please tell me I'm wrong about that....

It beats "Engage" or "Make it so!"

That really only works with Englishmen, and only then, it's only cool the first time...

It also beats "Mista Chekhov, Warp 1!", and blows "Somewhere...out there [looks into camera]") out of the stars

New universe, new catchphrase...I hope that remains Pike's catchphrase though...Alternate Kirk needs something else to say, although given the pacing of the new film, I'm pretty sure it'll be "Scotty! Get us the hell out of here! NOW!"

Anyone notice how many times Alternate Kirk said "Beam us up!" or "Beam me up!" whilst barreling towards his death? I guess they wanted to make sure that "Beam me up" actually popped up on screen after 40 years...unfortunately, since Scotty wasn't onboard yet, Kirk couldn't actually say "Beam me up, Scotty!"

And yes, I know Shatner said "Scotty, beam me up", don't bother pointing that out...

It was fine as a one-time spur-of-the-moment thing.

Yes -- "Engage" was also fun and interesting the first time I heard it. After hearing "engage" many, many,...many more times, it got to the point that I would cringe when I heard it.

"Punch it" is great used once in this film. If Pike or Kirk or anyone says it again, that too would be "cringe-worthy".

Hated it. Really hated it.

Jeffrey Hunter's Pike was one aggressive S.O.B., especially when backed into a corner. But then in the Prime Universe he already had one five year mission's worth of experience under his belt at this point...

Greenwood's Pike seemed to be on the desk jockey path. Not surprising with 20-somethings getting the Captaincy left, right and centre.

But, it was used twice.. hehe... see my sig line.. :rommie:

I liked "Punch it!" but I still prefer "Engage!". To me "Engage!" is synonymous with Star Trek franchise.

It would be great to hear that line in the sequel.
My sister kept saying "Digitize me." and "Go for the eyes." when Kirk was running away from those monsters on Delta Vega.

I think I like the whole delivery of the line. Something about it just kicks ass imho. Greenwood just has one of them epic voices.

Jeffy can eat a fat :borg:. I'm sorry that saving Earth from destruction isn't proof of his ability to captain the enterprise..... Instant commissions have happened in reality and will happen again in crisis.

Didn't Riker at one point say "... and punch it up to warp 9"? I only recall this because a friend would repeat it as derisive remark. He didn't like STTNG; too many kidnappings...

Ya I agree its one thing to hear it in a movie once but if it was used for 7 seasons in a show it would get old pretty fast. Especially if he was just telling someone to go somewhere on impulse power.

Pike: Set a course for Repair Station impulse power.
Sulu: Course Set sir.
Pike: PUNCH IT!

would sound kinda funny :)
