Let´s talk about the new Romulan ships?

That’s interesting to me. Could you elaborate more on your opinions? Do you mean the warbird? I think some of the later designs were kind of meh — the scout ship looked too boxy to me, with an airplane beak attached).

But the way the warbird combined both the bird motif with an alien hull configuration, that really dazzled a lot of people.

Warbirds look clunky especially the oversized "beak". (Should be Parrot class ) It's one blinky light away from being a Cylon. I also don't like over/under wings.

They may not have the resources to build D’Deridex ships these days, but wouldn’t it be cool to see an old one, patched up, and in active service in some Romulan faction? Could you imagine some massive beak decloaking next to one of our smaller ones? Or La Sirena?

It'd be great to see a nice ship design for a change and not an Eaves usual generic ugliness.

The ships you pointed are indeed to much old. But the Valdore not. She can still fly in the Picard era for sure. Mesh lost and/or outdated format are good tech explanations, but don´t serves as an excuse for do not recreate/update her.

I think the CBS just preferred do not put her in the show and instead, create new ships. Well, good or bad, it was a choice. Let´s wait the design of the new starfleet ships don´t make us upset...

CBS doesn't care about whether the Valdore was used or not. They hired John Eaves to design the Romulan ships. He could have reused the Valdore if he wanted and CBS would have been none the wiser, but instead he came up with something different.

Particularly as more up to date meshes do exist (for a graphics system, if not necessarily the one used for PIC CGI as three different variants [Mogai, Valdore and Morrigu] exist for Star Trek Online).

CBS isn't going to use STO designs or meshes for PIC.

We do know that the Tal Shiar has, in the past, had its own fleet (DS9's "The Die Is Cast") so they could have one here as well. Or these ships could also be the actual Romulan Free State fleet.

I wonder about the DS9 fleet. While the Obsidian Order did appear to have its own, secret assets, the Tal'Shiar probably could have commandeered as many generic Warbirds as they wanted from the Romulan fleet proper.

But the ship we saw from the inside appeared to have Colonel Lovok in direct command, rather than somebody with a naval rank who'd then just bow to the Tal'Shiar man's superior authority. Was it like that on all of the ships, or just the leading one with Lovok and Tain aboard? We can't tell. But even if all the others were commanded by Colonels or Majors, the ships themselves might be confiscated ones anyway.

I'm leaning towards Tal Shiar, actually. The ships don't look large enough to be rank-and-file fleet.

My gut feeling, too. That is, I doubt this was the author intent, but I don't really care, and thematically this nicely matches the S31 fleet of DSC.

But then again, we might see "proper" Romulans at some point, too, and I doubt Eaves would have come up with yet another ship design for them.

Whatever happened to the shot of these winged ships approaching Mars? Why was it created at all? Or is it going to be used in PIC in some capacity after all?
