I've actually tried to deepfake Nimoy and Shatner as Quinto and Pine in the reboot movies, requested by a couple of my subscribers. The stumbling blocks are the extreme face close-ups in the movies and the lighting effects (lens flares) that JJ Abrams likes to use. The model gets confused by all the sudden lighting changes, as you can see in spots in the Mr. Spock deepfake.

I want The Cage with Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, and Melissa George. And also the new Talosians and maybe Sean Connolly Affleck and Rachael Ancherill on random appropriate extras.

Eh, deepfakes are inevitable. I mean, they exist on Star Trek in the form of easily manipulated holograms. The whole "Did Spock kill those three doctors" thing was a deepfake.

The technology to deepfake voices is available, but it's a huge task to gather enough voice samples to make the model work. https://github.com/andabi/deep-voice-conversion.

Vocal deepfakes even showed up in The Menagerie 50 years ago, when Spock duplicated Kirk's voice to send those fake orders to the ship.
