Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock in Star Trek Discovery (deepfake)

The bit on Talos looks good, however, i think the program had trouble accounting for the fisheye lens used for the mental ward scene.

If you're going to re-post someone else's video, you really should give credit to the guy that made it.
Lol, it's youtube. I have no idea who made it nor do I care. If you're the one that made the Spock one, then whoop-de-do, you're what's wrong with the society as deep fakes are really really disturbing and should be banned. You're not doing a homage, you're destroying history and reality. Good job! (that's sarcasm, FYI)

Is this really an issue for embedded youtube videos? They link back to the video page by clicking the title or the youtube logo in the corner. The top left thumbnail also links directly to the uploader's page.

BTW, the above is Will Ferrell performing in a movie directed by Adam McKay for Apatow Productions.

Thank you, though next time, just to be safe, I think you also need to include links to their IMDB, Wikipedia, Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as each person's signed (in triplicate) approval for the fair use of their images. :D

Eh, deepfakes are inevitable. I mean, they exist on Star Trek in the form of easily manipulated holograms. The whole "Did Spock kill those three doctors" thing was a deepfake.

This is a clearly marked "Homage" to Spock and Nimoy, titled as such, and has clear entertainment value. That it wasn't perfect is beside the point. It obviously took some work and the technology is only getting better (for better or worse).

People are scared of deepfakes for good reason, but I'm sure it won't be too long before Hollywood takes notice and our favorite stars of yesteryear are back in full form. With the right voice actor, Stan Lee might never miss a cameo.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Just saying...
Come on. Don't be shy.

And you know you're doing something wrong if you get banned from reddit. From REDDIT :D :D

From what I read the ban was for the fact that it could be involuntary porn production, which should be pretty obvious from the tech.

Deep Fakes are here to stay, and even Star Trek has demonstrated the use of falsifying visual records as part of storytelling. Seems highly relevant and not worthy of the scorn demonstrated.

On topic, it certainly is an interesting experiment to be sure.

Boy, you people sometimes … Why all the negativity towards someone who decides to post their piece of fan art here? Way to make someone feel welcome …

I for one found this sequence to be particularly successful in merging Nimoy's face into Peck's:

Sorry, I always find these deepfake recreations on the creepy side. No offense meant to anyone, certainly.

They're probably harmless. Obviously if any of Nimoys family complain, it should be taken down. But my guess is they probably see it as harmless.

I want The Cage with Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, and Melissa George. And also the new Talosians and maybe Sean Connolly Affleck and Rachael Ancherill on random appropriate extras.

I offer you no money, and I want this done by next week.

That's really not necessary since clicking the link up top or the YouTube icon takes you to the source video location.

Settle down. It's not like he faked a politician's comments to try and get them in trouble or made a fake celebrity porn video. Obviously there are uses of this technology that can be destructive, but I don't think harmlessly switching out Spock faces in a video that makes no attempt at deception really qualifies.
