One of my friends showed me a trailer for the upcoming movie Legion, and I have to say despite my atheist attitudes (I don't believe in a high power, but am open to one if concrete proof can be given) this movie looks very interesting.
Here is the General Audiences trailer, just search Legion Trailer on YouTube to see the Red Band trailer.

So what do you think of this film so far? First off I think it is a bit weird that the Angels can be killed so easily. It makes me think that maybe they are not the mythological angels, but possibly some type of alien.

There is no concrete proof. There never will be. That's why it's called faith.

Gilligan, you're confusing the existence of a God with religion. Many religions are faith-based, like Christianity, and focus upon the "no proof needed, it's all about faith" tact because they cannot provide concrete proof (at least not concrete enough for most to accept, miracles and the like are technically part of their proof). A "true believer" is led by faith.

I don't know how you can make a statement like "there never will be" considering a God/higher power/supreme being/etc. would likely be able to do whatever it/they/He/She wishes within a logical consistency. The idea of faith doesn't make the existence of proof impossible.

I'm not confusing anything. The belief in any God (JudeoChristian or otherwise) is based solely on faith. It's not a matter of "many" religions being faith-based. All of them are. Proof resides in the heart; either you believe the particular tenets of your culture or you don't.

That doesn't exclude the possibility of concrete, scientific proof in the future. It also doesn't negate the desire for it.

It is/should be a non-issue for those in particular faith-based religions that deal with a God.

The movie looks... I dunno how to describe it. It could either be pretty cool... or hilariously terrible. I'm just not sure if I can predict which.

I personally agree with the Distressed Watcher in the second episode of "Trailer Failure" (@ http://thatguywiththeglasses.com) that the premise of this film seemed terrible and not very well thought at all, angels as villains I mean come on why must Hollywood continue to produce trash when anything comes out related to religion :sigh:, and the reference to Legion in the bible was the name of a group of demons that had possessed a boy that Jesus Christ drove out, yet Legion is the name of an army of angels now? WTF!

There is another semi-religious based film coming out soon called "Solomon Kane" which also has weird and stupid theology and no logic whatsoever, if you don't know about it whach the third episode of "Trailer Failer".

Here are direct the links to the episodes I am talking about...

I wasn't familiar with the title, but I took a look at the Red Band Trailer, and now I'm intrigued. The thing that works against the film, though, is the mid-January release date; that's when studios dump their bombs. *shrug*

I've never really thought of Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane as a religious hero. His Puritanism helps to motivate him, but mainly he's a 17th-century solider of fortune who happens to get involved with weird shit.

It's called 'world-building', and I'm glad to see it; films and other works of fiction that just take religion assumed as is commonly perceived are dull and uncreative. As to the angels, that's perfectly in keeping with the Old Testament/Apocalyptic vibe the film seems to be going for, as agents of yet another of the Judeo-Christian deity's genocidal whims. You'll note that, despite the cherubic and aristocratic Renaissance depictions of angels we've become habituated to, earlier Jewish and Christian apocrypha often describe angels as terrible and frightening in countenance. Interesting that it's the Archangel Michael who is the 'good' angel in this one, since as the angel of death you'd figure he'd be at the forefront of the old goat's armies. Looks like Gabriel's the villain in this one again--echoes of 'The Prophecy', although I pity whoever has to fill Christopher Walken's shoes.

Legion seems to be there just because it sounds 'cool', though. Still, in many traditions demons are fallen angels, so perhaps it takes the idea of 'legion' as common to any host of supernatural beings, not just demonic ones. And, of course, there's the military meaning of the world clearly being invoked by the armed conflict between humanity and heaven the film depicts.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
