Oh, believe me, seeing this trailer in 3D on the big screen will leave you BREATHLESS. I admit I actually shed a tear or two.

I believe it's based on popular series of childrens' books.

Oh Really? : The Movie :p

In all seriousness it looks awesome. Always nice to see an animated movie with no pop culture references/crappy pop music. Although its made by the guys who did Happy Feet which I didnt care for, but I might go see it just because I think these kinds of films need more support these days(like How To Train Your Dragon.)

    Awesome

    Ew, I didn't know that.

Hopefully it's like the first half of Happy Feet instead of the second half. I really don't need to be beaten over the head with overfishing propaganda.

This story is apparently an adaptation of the first 3 novels of a 15 book series of the same name - therefore I doubt (or shall I say I hope!) that this movie will be far removed from the Happy Feet plot.

I found a synopsis of these books on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardians_of_Ga'Hoole

This is a snippet of the first book - the overall story sounds like it could be quite dark:

This series follows the adventures of Soren, a young Barn Owl.
The series begins with The Capture. In the first book Soren, who lives in a nest with his parents and siblings Kludd and Eglantine, is pushed out of the nest by Kludd. Soren is then found and snatched by a patrol of the evil owls from the St. Aegolius' Academy for Orphaned Owls, whose controlling members call themselves the 'Pure Ones' but whose intent is to gain power and control over all owl kingdoms in the world.

I may see it, I may not. The fact that they're heavily emphasizing that it's from the same people who did Happy Feet is a big turn off. What I remember about HF the most is that it was advertised as a cute little movie about a dancing penguin, but ended up being an environmentalist film showing that All Humans Are Evil! instead of trying to entertain. I'm just wondering if this movie is going to try to beat people over the head with their message like they did with HF.

Looks great. Big change of pace for director Zack Snyder. I guess they used "from the studio who brought you Happy Feet" because "from the director of 300 and Watchmen" doesn't exactly resonate with the audience for family films.

That 2nd trailer makes it clear that this is a Zack Snyder film, lots of his visual style and touches on display. I almost expected one of the Spartan owls to screech, "THIS IS GA'HOOLE!"

With that said it looks like fun.

    Snippets:

And a brief outline of the plot (warning spoilers):
Soren (Jim Sturgess) is a young Barn Owl who, after accidentally falling from his treetop dwelling with his duplicitous brother Kludd (True Blood's Ryan Kwanten), encounters the sharpened talons of the Pure Ones, a group of evil, masked owls led by Queen Nyra (Helen Mirren). After a narrow escape, Soren heads off to find the Great Tree, the home of the titular Guardians, a race of warrior owls who provide the only chance of defeating the Pure Ones' tyrannical rule.
