Legacy..your thoughts

Frankly I thought it was a really moving story thanks mainly to Ishara and her impact on the crew in bringing back memories of Tasha. Yet I never hear anyone talk about it or say anything about it.

I consider it a strong season four episode.

What's the concensus?

I liked it, although I would have appreciated an explanation as to how and why things got that bad on that colony in the first place.

I preferred Jean Lorrah's interpretation of events in "Survivors," the 4th TNG novel (5th, if you count the novelization to "Encounter at Farpoint.") than this episode, the 80th TNG episode which broke the 79 episodes produced by TOS.

Beth's got a great body, though. Most recently, I saw her in that Rachel McAdams film Red Eye. She's quite easy on the eyes.

^ I never, ever noticed that. Never heard of it, either. Wow...learn something new everyday.

Funny...I've seen Red Eye twice and never noticed she's in it. IMDB confirms it, but I can't picture where she appears.

Legacy is one of my "second-tier" favorite episodes, and I love Beth's outfits!

I think the episode is lame, tight fitting catsuits aside (as opposed to loose fitting ones?). What was the point, she was Tasha's sister. Whoop-dee-do.

How does the Federation let a colony fall into chaos like that? Laissez faire approach?

The rich senator's wife. She was the blonde mom to the kids in that hotel suite. They narrowly escaped death by that rocket launcher fired from that boat!

No, the point was: up to that episode, our characters had always been justified in their new-age, trusting attitude to everybody. Here, they were bitterly reminded that they couldn't always trust other people, especially family members of friends about whom they had nostalgic memories. It was a real slap in the face, and very well-written.

PS The action scenes were fun, and the sets were well done, too.

In hindsight, this episode would have been a perfect opportunity to put Troi in a full-fledged logic vs. emotion conflict.

Troi's empathy usually served only to confirm what everyone else already suspected about any given person, good or bad. Here, everybody else automatically trusts Ishara because of their affection for Tasha. Emotionally, Troi wants to do the same. Logically, her empathic sense tells her that Ishara shouldn't be trusted.

If I recall correctly, Troi does make one token protest that "[Ishara's] loyalties are clearly divided." But it goes in one ear and out the other with everyone else.

Data learns alot here by virtue of his big decision in the end. but what about the 2 factions implanting proximity detectors?? who would really do that for the benefit of their enemy??

Go watch "A Taste of Armageddon" and then ask yourself that again. Apparently, it happens.

It wasn't the factions implanting each other, really. It was their former masters in the now-fallen government.

The problem would have gone away in a few years anyway, I'd think. Only the people who were alive when the government was in power would have the implants. Just keep breeding, and soon both factions would have child soldiers who would be invisible to the sensors and capable of carrying bombs to the strongholds of the enemy. The trick with Ishara was just a test run for what would surely happen soon after the episode.

My thoughts on Legacy?

Let's see....

Um... Camel toe... Mullets... and sci-fi hotness!

Seriously, I've always felt that this ep was under rated and exactly for the same reasons mentioned i the original post. The fact that the crew failed to get to Inara is a good touch too. For all of thier 24th century enlightenment, they could not overcome Inara's trauma of a harsh life.

Great ep!
