Ledger fans petition to retire "The Ultimate Joker"

For some reason it seems that Joker fans petitioning for Ledger not to be in any Batman movies would be more successful than the fans behind the no-Joker campaign.

I thought Ledger was good in the role. However the writers obviously had no idea who the Joker was or what he stands for. I look forward to some writers capturing the Joker properly on film. That being said more Joker in the future.

Agreed. This is just silly. Ledger was great in the role, and I'd be inclined to use a new villain in the next Bat-flick anyway, but you can't "retire" a classic role just because a talented actor died.

Did Hollywood retire Dracula after Bela Lugosi died? Did they retire James Bond after Sean Connery quit? Of course not.

And I'd love to see what another actor could do with Khan. (Not "Kahn.") Arnold Vosloo maybe? Or the guy who plays Sayiid on LOST?

No role is sacred.

By that note should we have another Kahn for the rebooted
Star Trek?
The caharcter of Kahn has only ever been associated with one actor. The Joker on the other hand has been played by many actors who in my experience have all done great jobs in their own right.

This petition needs the full backing of Obama. Then everyone on Earth will embrace the idea of retiring the Joker from film.

Meh, I didn't think he was that great in Dark Knight. ~shrug~ Certainly not worth the hype that he was given; which, to be honest, seemed more fueled by his death than his performance.

There wouldn't be any great push to retire Joker if Heath hadn't died, so why should his death be used as an excuse? I haven't seen TDK, but I'm sure he was great in it. This does not mean that nobody should ever be allowed to play Joker ever again. That's just bullshit.

He is dead, he was the Joker. Again I ask, who would be
a fan of Kahn being brought back now that Ricardo is dead?

Ledger was in no way the definitive Joker the way the actor who played Montalban was the definitive Khan.

At best, Ledger was average.

So true.

Wow. Sure I love Ledger's take on the Joker, but come on! Just because he got it right for this place in time it doesn't someone else can't do the same.

I dont think they would have a new joker for this incarnation of the batman series anyway. Once it starts anew with a new vision again in a few decades, then new a new Joker is fine.
