Learning to love "Insurrection"

"You know, I've never actually seen a sunrise. Not the way you see it..."
I do wonder what exactly happen to Geordi's sight. Geordi was born blind due to a birth defect, the effects of the rings "cured" the problem. So what happen? Did he have Doctor Crusher deliberately reblind him as some kind of political statement?

If Picard's girlfriend were to ever leave the planet/Brier Patch, would she fairly quickly age and die?

:)
That's what kills me about this movie. They had so many oppertunities to bring about changes to Star Trek and yet they turn it into an episode where nothing changes. They could have given Geordi's eyes back for good and they could have had the Baku give the Federation their planet which would provide them an instrumental tool in helping to defeat the Dominion. Insurrection could have been an important movie for Star Trek that actually affected the lore instead of just adding +1 to the number of movies.

well it did get Riker and Troi back together for them to get married in "Nemesis." On the other hand, Data's character underwent a total regression.

The ds9 writers wouldn't have taken advantage of anything done to advance the war in the movie, so there really is no point in doing something like that which would just be ignored.

Which would have made this a much better movie if it felt more a part of the universe rather than relying on being so stand alone that it actually has to accomplish nothing in order for it to be anything.
