LCARS Operating System - Calling all Linux nerds!

Hamish,

Kai.

Hamish, can you send that email again?

Isn't there someone else around here who developed an LCARS operating system for older PCs?

wasnt that back in the 90's? i seem to recall a lcars gui for windows 95. i remeber that i never got it to work though.the newer lcars programs are mostly for PPC and iphone os.

No, it's someone who posts around here, and it really is a complete OS--it's meant for older systems that would've been capable of DOS or Win95, at the most, though you could run it on newer PCs.

ETA: Found it! Now, if I could only remember the handle of the poster who maintains it....

The software you are talking about is called LCARS-24 and it is a GUI shell for DOS based PCs. It is a keyboard driver affair, but if you have an old laptop lying around, you can turn it into a pretty cool alarm clock! The creator of that software is called Bill Morris and his username here is, suprisingly, LCARS 24!

Kai.

all you guys have great ideas .. why not use the android os which uses the linux kernal for the os and java to run the apps that way it can run on anything .. pc mac smart phone ..

Are you still working on this? I'd like to help out. I'm a software engineer by day, so I think I could contribute nicely to this.

Ideally I'd like to make the system easily configurable for people that want to use it via templates of some kind. Maybe a simple scripting system that execute system commands and even support to more complex execution of things under the covers.

I want to build an LCARS display for my 1/650 Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E interactive models.
