Law & Order General Discussion Thread

Ron Cephas Jones cut through a lot of the thick writing on This Is Us to deliver a really solid, flawed, human character. Hopefully he can do the same here.

They barely have enough lines to give to anyone not named Olivia Benson, so I was wondering why they added two characters to start with. That being said, they both brought new, welcome angles to the show and they will be missed.

Looks like at one was a firing. Must be a budget thing.
It's not. Heard that both actors aren't earning enough to really be an issue.

Yep. Thanks to Warren's obsession with Olivia.

Agreed. I really liked Garland and was starting to like Kat.

Any of you out there who subscribe to Peacock...

Could somebody explain why episodes of Organized Crime expire after a certain amount of time? Even for those on the highest tier of service? Peacock doesn't explain this anywhere on their website, and contacting them doesn't seem to help.

And why is it only OC? No other L&O show does this.

Edit: I'm liking what I see from OC's second season. The sooner they can get rid of all this Wheatley crap and focus on the Albanian angle, the better. :techman:

One of the departing actors says leaving wasn't her choice.

SVU always tried to develop its characters more than the mothership, but when a show has gone for over twenty years, there has to be more cast turnover. I love Kelli Giddish and I like Rollins as a character, but where else can you go with her as a character? Ice-T is trotted out for a line or two an episode, but they haven't dropped into any of his issues with being the Sergeant now, a job he never really wanted.

They had written Garland into this place where he was fighting the injustice of the department. They had written Kat as this rough around the edges new detective, hot around the collar. They dropped the two characters with the most potential, not to mention of colour.

I've made my distaste for the Benson-centric episode structure that they continue to employ. I don't care about Benson or Stabler or their will they, won't they romantic relationship.

The show is just catering to its hardcore shipper fanbase now. Unlike rational people, they want the show to be purely about straight white people who find love on the force. They've managed to fire just about every person of color on the show except for their token Ice-T, who apparently can't even go through with a marriage because that might take away from the upcoming Rollins or Benson nuptials.

Law & Order has been renewed for season 21... 11 years after it was canceled. I wonder if they'll bring anyone back. Other than Linus Roache and Sam Waterston, everyone from the final season has another TV job, and Waterston is 80. Maybe they'll try to mix and match from all the prior L&O shows, since "sources confirm that preliminary talks are underway with a handful of franchise vets."

I'm a Law & Order newbie. I don't remember why but recently I started watching SVU and it became interesting. I must confess, I started with episodes that were on TV after Stabler left so I have missed a huge chunk. But, I know Meloni can do nice work, he was good in Oz. I might end up watching SVU from the start at some point. I think my sister has some earlier seasons on DVD, might I have to borrow them.

Grace and Frankie is ending so Sam Waterston would be available too, but I don't think there are too many 80-year-old district attorneys running around New York City. Maybe one of McCoy's family members could be a victim or suspect.

Sisto, De La Garza, Noth, Martin and Merkerson are currently on hit TV shows, so they wouldn't be coming back. I wonder if they're also considering actors who were regulars on other L&O shows.

Waterston has always been jonesing for a L&O relaunch, so I think he'd jump at the chance to play Jack McCoy again. (He was on SVU a couple of years ago, for Ben Stone's funeral; I don't know if McCoy was still supposed to be the D.A., though.)

Not sure about Chris Noth, but most of the other actors would probably love to return as well. Even those who are currently working on other shows (I'm sure the scheduling could be worked out).

Robert Morgenthau, the real-life Manhattan DA who was one of the inspirations for Steven Hill's character Adam Schiff, was in office until he was 90, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I always wondered if the real U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff ever has to deal with L&O jokes.

(FWIW, Dick Wolf consistently denies that's where he got the name.)

Covid has already been included into the show. Welcome to the real live. Why do some of the actors wear masks and others don't? And in some episodes they don't wear masks at all?
