Hmm. Looks like too much of a broadcast series approach - too Spielbergy (I guess it's to be expected), feels like it could be on CBS - but since they're on basic cable, why not play up the advantage that gives a show of not having to be broadly appealing and mainstream? Go for more The Walking Dead approach. They need to be more unexpected than "noble humans battle eeevil aliens" if they want to hang onto a cable audience.
Maybe the trailers are giving an inaccurately bland impression by editing out all the nuance in favor of Big Speeches and splosions. I wouldn't write it off at this point. The key thing is, it's not on CBS or ABC. The ratings don't have to be spectacular for it to survive. Ass-kicking alien invasion summer TV? That alone should lock in an audience of a few million.
