Well, I do my part in keeping it alive. Whenever I get new DVDs I make sure to post in here. ;)

At some point during the summer, I picked up a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart... and I fully understand why it was there. No special features, no anamorphic widescreen, the picture looks like it was remastered with an extra-coarse piece of sandpaper, and the only subtitles are in Spanish and Korean.

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up the Charlie Sheen film The Chase. It's been years since I saw it, and it still holds up pretty well. My memory of the film was obviously quite fuzzy, since I could have sworn Cary Elwes had more than a brief cameo when I'd seen it on TV before.

On Saturday at Costco, I found a collection of classic TV christmas specials (Rudolph..., Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty the Snowman and Frosty returns and that is all I can recall off the top of my head).

I bought that and the first season of Heroes. Hopefuly now I won't feel so out of the loop and left out *everywhere* I go, when all anyone is talking about is Heroes. ;)

Just purchased the uncut version of Stuart Gordon's From Beyond (1986), based on the story by H.P. Lovecraft and starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton.

Tomorrow I'm going to go pick up the new DVD releases of Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof and the 1980 Al Pacino thriller Cruising, directed by William Friedkin.

(Trivia question!: What song features on the soundtracks of both Cruising and Death Proof??)

I just bought Heroes last night, after renting the first couple of discs from Netflix. I haven't been buying as many DVDs since signing up with them, but Heroes was good enough to warrant a purchase.

The last time I bought DVDs before that, I got all five seasons of B5 on sale from Best Buy for $20 each, along with the Gathering/In the Beginning.

My hubby and I decided to pretend we have money and picked up the entire series of Futurama. I freakin love that show. Bender is the man!

In the past couple of weeks...

Heroes
CSI Season 5
X-Files Season 2
X-Files Season 3
X-Files Season 4
X-Files Season 5
X-Files Season 6
X-Files Season 7
X-Files Season 8
X-Files Season 9
Fantastic Four 2 : Rise of the Silver Surfer
Family Guy Volume 5

In the past month or so:
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 1
Stargate SG-1 season 10
Stargate Atlantis season 3
A Dog's Breakfast

Momentum have an offer on all of the R2 CSI sets (CSI, Miami and New York), £12.89 per half season. So I picked up seasons 4, 5, 6 & half of season 7 of CSI.

I'll be picking up Elizabeth at some point this weekend so I can watch it before seeing Elizabeth: The Golden Age next weekend.

I recently bought my 900th DVD  . All I can say is, I don't smoke and I don't drink, so I guess it works out about even! ;)

My most recent purchase was just yesterday when I stumbled upon the 30th Anniversary Megabox edition of the complete Space: 1999. This is a new, slimmed down version of the megabox that was put out couple of years ago, at about 1/3 of the price, too. I never even knew this version existed. Now if only they'd do something similar with the complete Avengers series of the 1960s and The Saint...

Cheers!

Alex

I finally broke down and just bought the Transformers Generation One Series Collection on DVD that came out a couple of years ago in Japan. It's supposed to be region free in NTSC; but I have a multi-region player that can handle anything. It's also supposed to be of even better video quality than the Rhino release here in the U.S. (not to mention a good bit cheaper). It's got the option for the English soundtrack with no sub-titles, but the menus are all in Japanese; still, everything I've read says it isn't too challenging to figure out the right option to get the language changed over.

Latest were:
Ah! My Goddess TV Boxset
Ah! My Goddess: The Movie
Chevalier D'Eon Vol. 5
Ergo Proxy Vol. 6 (Last one completes my set)
Eureka 7 Vol. 9
Fate/Stay Night Vol. 5 and 6 (Completes the series)
Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 3 Limited Edition
Noein Vol. 5 (Last one)
Witchblade Vol. 1 + Artbox

Fry's has some really good Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sales starting today. They have a bunch of Blu-Ray titles for $9.99 (or buy one get one free) including A Few Good Men, Layer Cake, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Tears of the Sun, The Patriot, Underworld, Hellboy, Donnie Brasco, The Fifth Element, Black Hawk Down and Dracula (although the transfer is supposed to suck for that one).

Select Paramount HD-DVDs (pretty small list) are 2 for $27.
