latest DVD purchases

Well, my DVD buyin' has slowed down since I moved, but I went by Circuit City earlier and picked up Star Wars Episodes I and II as part of my oldest nephew's birthday present and got The Closer - The Complete Second Season for myself at Target (they were five bucks cheaper than Circuit City).

Took advantage of the Fry's Blu-Ray 2/$25 sale. Really only wanted Layer Cake, but ended up getting Donnie Brasco, Revenge and Tears of the Sun too.

Of course, getting Revenge and Tears of the Sun pretty much killed my plan to only get high-quality movies on Blu-Ray.

Not as good as Psychomania!

My last purchase was the brilliant A Very British Coup, with Ray McAnally. And I've just preordered Doctor Who Time-Flight/Arc of Infinity. Two of the worst serials ever, but I don't care!

Last night after work, I picked up City Slickers, Quigley Down Under - Western Legengs and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby - Unrated and Uncut! for only five dollars each.

"If you're not first, you're last!"

Early this week I got via Amazon:
Hot Fuzz, My Name Is Earl Season 1 + the Album.

I also have preordered the Blade Runner Über boxset.

I returned from a trip to Vancouver a couple weeks ago, and I picked up some cool classics:

The Gold Rush
The Great Dictator
as well as Unknown Chaplin, a 3-part documentary series featuring outtakes from Chaplin's famous films.

I've been on a classic movie kick for awhile now. Just before going to Vancouver I purchased the Louise Brooks classic, Pandora's Box. And last weekend I bought the Kino Video restored version of Metropolis. Haven't had time to watch it yet, though.

I've had to turn to Amazon more frequently as my local Best Buys and Future Shops aren't bothering to order many of the DVDs I'm interested in. No one bothered to bring in last week's DVD release of the 1970s TV series Isis, so I ordered it from Amazon. Same with the Louise Brooks film Diary of a Lost Girl which I ordered yesterday after trying and failing to find it anywhere for sale here in this city of a million people.

(But if I want a copy of My Super Sweet 16, they are everywhere.)

Cheers!

Alex
