latest DVD purchases

I just picked up Brothers of the Head, a very unusual "mock"umentary about conjoined twin punk rockers. I had "mock" in quotes because it really wasn't funny- it was actually rather tragic (though it had funny moments). I really enjoyed it, and I don't know why. :lol:

Picking up Superman Returns on Tuesday. December is going to be good for DVDs, too- Pirates II and Talledega Nights. :D

Picked up this week:

Conan the Barbarian: Special Edition.

True Lies.

Stargate: Director's Cut.

On their way in the mail:

The Complete Tarantino Box Set (with Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Volume 1, and Kill Bill, Volume 2).

Miller's Crossing/Road to Perdition two-pack.

The Crow: Special Edition.

I ordered The Greatest American Hero Complete Series in the metal tin which also contains the instruction manual and cape. Can't wait 'til it arrives.

I relish my childishness.

Agreed, after all the idea of gathering a collection as I do is rather selfish and self-centered by nature. If I'm going to be selfish and cater to my inherent need to entertain myself then they're going to films/series I like and want to own, not just buy them for variety or because they're "Classics". That being said I do tend to have a little bit of everything, though it's mostly sci-fi, and action stuff the majority being my anime which can either be a testament to my childish nature or quite mature depending on which one my series you pick off the shelf. :cool:

I just got paid, so I binged.

I bought:

--Oz, Season One;
--Battlestar Galactica, Season One (haven't seen NuBSG yet);
--Michael Collins; (for work)
--Oh What a Lovely War; (for work)
--Film Noir Classics 2;
--In a Lonely Place; (more film noir)
--The Cover Up; (still more film noir)
--and Full Contact. (Hong-Kong violence)

Well, this mornin', I was grocery shoppin' at a Wal-Mart Supercenter, and saw that they had Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Dumb and Dumber for $3.88, plus tax, each.

So I bought 'em.

I also went down to Circuit City for their Saturday sale, and got a copy of Pulp Fiction - Collector's Edition for $5.99, plus tax.

And that concludes this week's DVD buyin'.

:thumbsup:

Lucky bastard! :mad: ;)

Actually, I've held off buying the pilot episode because I've heard bad things about the quality of the DVD. Is it as bad as people say?

I have Season One, but it doesn't really stand on its own.

I gotcha. A few months ago, some of my co-workers were lookin' over my DVD library, and told me I had too much sci fi.

I read over the titles, and added 'em up. Turns out that out of just over a hundred movies, sixty-eight of 'em were sci fi / fantasy movies.

Since then, I've tried to go for a more balanced library. Each time I get a sci fi movie, I buy a comedy or drama or something. Each time I buy a comedy or drama, I don't get a sci fi movie, just dependin' on what kind of movie I pick out first while shoppin'.

In September, I checked, and it was a 52% / 48% split between comedy / drama and sci fi / fantasy, puttin' sci fi in the minority of my library.

Basically it comes down to:

Are you buying DVDs that you enjoy, or are you buying DVDs to make a well-balanced library that other people would approve of? The only thing I care about is "Will I want to watch this DVD a number of times?" If yes, then I'll buy it. If not, then it's a rental. Sometimes I find I really don't end up watching some as much as I thought, and I trade 'em or sell 'em. I'm sure as hell not going to buy a comedy or drama merely because I don't have a high enough percentage of those titles in the libraray and want to balance things out.

Yeah... I don't give a shit if my "library" is balanced. My BOOKS are nowhere near balanced, even.

I have lots of sci fi, wish I had more. I also have big budget kablooey type flicks, which I love. I have loads of random ones that I just plain like.

I have two special shelves reserved for my Trek / Firefly / Atlantis / Star Wars etc. Don't care if people see that and think I'm a dork. ;)
