latest DVD purchases

I picked up TAS last night. I should get M*A*S*H: Season 11, and the last 2 Doctor Who releases in the mail.

Within the last week or so:

Exorcist II: The Heretic
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
(1978)
Slither

I just got my DVDs in the mail! They'll probably be the last DVD sets I'll get for a long while.

Alias season 5. I can't belive how shitty the packaging is and the paltry extras are disgusting. The show however is great!

I bought the 2 disc edition of X-Men: The Last Stand.
Now I only need to find the time to enjoy it. :borg:

Some people buy cigarettes. I buy DVDs.

Recent purchases include:

NCIS Season 2
Alias Season 5
La Femme Nikita Season 5
Da Vinci Code.

And I plan to get the Mission Impossible and Superman sets in the next couple weeks...

Cheers!

Alex

Wal-Mart's had a pretty good selection of DVDs on sale, so during the past three weeks, I've bought:

Ever After
The Italian Job
Sin City

Picked up the following all at DDDs 20% off sale:

Farscape: Collections 11 and 12
MASH: The Complete Series
Seinfeld Season 7

Within the past month, I have added the following DVDs to my personal collection:

NYPD Blue - Season 1
NYPD Blue - Season 2
Star Trek: Fan Collective - Borg
Transformers: The Movie - 20th Anniversary Special Edition
Futurama Vol. 1
Futurama Vol. 2
Futurama Vol. 3
Futurama Vol. 4
Project A-ko

(guilty pleasure! :p )

Well, I did buy:

Paul McCartney - The Space Within US (live concert DVD)
The Beatls - Love
Star Trek: The Animated Series
Cars

Lastest purchases I made:

Millennium - Seasons 2 and 3
Boomtown - Complete series (A bargain at £4.97, just a shame the Region 2 has "fuck all" in the way of extras)
Life on Mars - Series 1 (Can't believe I completely missed this show when it aired, it's fantastic!)

That's about it...

...And Neon Genesis Evangelion - The complete series boxset/tin should arrive tomorrow (hopefully)

Went to Circuit City and Best Buy today, and got -

- Brokeback Mountain - Four Star Collection ($4.99)
- Doom - Unrated Extended Edition ($5.99)
- Drumline - Widescreen Edition ($4.00)
- Entrapment - Special Edition ($4.00)
- Field of Dreams - Two-Disc Anniversary Edition / Widescreen ($5.99)
- Ice Age ($4.99)
- Into the Blue - Widescreen Edition ($4.99)
- Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid - Two-Disc Special Edition ($8.99)
- Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World - Award Series ($4.99)
- Out of Time - Special Edition ($4.00)

Out of the ten, three of those (Brokeback Mountain, Doom and Master & Commander) are blind buys, and before any gives me grief, I bought The Little Mermaid 'cause Rene Auberjonois did the voice for the French chef.

I want to be honest. I turned 31 early last month, and when I stepped into Tower Records and purchased "Project A-ko" an anime film which I haven't seen since I was 17 years old -- well, that really was somewhat of an "I'm too old for this..." sort of epiphany, and made me reevaluate the type of DVD purchases that I've tended to make since I first purchased a DVD player 5 years ago. Either dark/gritty/grim films or all-out action films!

So, I decided to purchase "Hitch," "Sideways," and "The Notebook," etc. to balance out the somewhat immature purchases of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Project A-ko" on DVD.

Time for me to grow up. Which doesn't necessarily mean throw out all your "toys" and play golf instead, but rather strike that right balance, if you know what I mean?

I gotcha. A few months ago, some of my co-workers were lookin' over my DVD library, and told me I had too much sci fi.

I read over the titles, and added 'em up. Turns out that out of just over a hundred movies, sixty-eight of 'em were sci fi / fantasy movies.

Since then, I've tried to go for a more balanced library. Each time I get a sci fi movie, I buy a comedy or drama or something. Each time I buy a comedy or drama, I don't get a sci fi movie, just dependin' on what kind of movie I pick out first while shoppin'.

In September, I checked, and it was a 52% / 48% split between comedy / drama and sci fi / fantasy, puttin' sci fi in the minority of my library.
